Was out around Long Island tonight with the wife. All of a sudden coming around a can, and the engine races, but the boat is slowing down. So I throttle back, and she is moving at 2 knots, check the motor out, no line around it, the lower unit looks good. So I throttle up, and around 5 knots she does the same thing, so I limp back to the Wessagusset ramp at 4.5 and it takes me 1 hour. Put her on the trailer , and brought her home. I am guessing I might have spun the prop, but I am not sure. Anyone got any ideas? Oh yeah around 5 knots she was vibrating a bit..

Well I took the prop off, and the rubber inside is there. Next I removed the inspection plug for the lower unit, and no oil seeped or trickled out. So I drained it, it was deffinately low, and no metalshavings thank god. I noticed the inspection screw was missing its washer. So I am off for lower unit lube and two new screws, or washers.

"Spun Prop"? Those rubber vibration thingies go bad? I can not think of anything else though, not many other connections inside the beast to go away.

The prop is off to the shop, the spare they gave me back is the wrong one, so I will trade that in and buy another new one.

Well I dropped the prop off lat week, and bought a new one. I had'nt had a chance to use the boat, so I put the new prop on wednesday. I got a call that the other prop was in, I went down to pick it up. They tell me there was nothing wrong with the hub, now my day just went downhill. So the guy suggess we talk to the mechanic, who is a great guy, and very knowledgeable. The counter guy tells him what engine I have and tells him I have spun prop symptoms. Mechanic ask if there is still a steady water stream I say yes, he says you probably busted the drive shaft below the water pump. I ask him the engine will move the boat at all he says no. I tell him I was able to drive the boat back at 4-5 knots, but no more, so he says deffinately the prop, try it with the new prop. So I took the long no wake ride out of the back river. Hit the no wake sign, and drop the hammer, next thing you know we are cruising along at 19 knots. :jump:

You thinkI should call the prop place, and have them recheck the hub on the spare?

I doubt the shaft is broke, you wouldn't be able to move and it would make one hell of a racket. I still say prop is f'ed up.

I'd put the spare on and test it as to avoid any surprises in the future.

i've seen a shaft fracture on an angle before...
instead of a clean break...
