I havent got a lathe for fear of instant divorce :gorez: but having lurked for a while so i handcarved some basswood recently and based them on Gary 2 tigers ...these are like bomber long A ...2 oz 7 inch , leave a wide tail wake >>>> on a slow retteive and dive 1-2 ft with a tight ~~~~~~~~~and back up quick . only took a day each :uhoh: through wired, sealed with epoxy like Gary 2's. Had to cut and file the lips ....anyone know where to get bomber lips ?

Thanks ! they swim nice ...just got to try tonight to catch on 'em

ProfessorM 08-04-2007 09:19 AM

Beautiful job. You don't need a lathe

Backbeach Jake 08-04-2007 09:30 AM

That's some awesome work. Funny thing pops, a whole lot of us wood spinners are now experimenting with handcarves. That puts you way ahead of the curve.

Pissa Pops ... Your off and running ... great looking handcarve . Think you might be hooked now ? Wait until you catch on it ..

pops 08-04-2007 06:17 PM

thanks ...! itried them out , they tail kick like a surfster leaving a large surface wake >>>>> it dives about 2 ft before popping up ....nice.
Is there any way to get the same desigh to dive deeper 3-4ft m??? different wood ? more weight ? they are 2oz 7 "
thanks

Tagger 08-04-2007 10:38 PM

try knocking off a Maverick .. they go down .. shorter and stubbier ... Are you weighting those ?

afterhours 08-05-2007 05:10 AM

super looking pluggage!

Raven 08-05-2007 05:43 AM

extremely nice Pops

in the old days people sat on
their front porch watching the
world go by...and whittled wood.

you have taken that
to a whole new level
:cputin:

Tagger 08-10-2007 03:40 AM

sweet Pops ... very G2 ... do you know how to do hangers ? .. not that hard really .

Woodbuster 08-10-2007 07:33 AM

Nice job!!

pops 08-10-2007 08:35 AM

Thanks, I talk to gary about them too ...nice guy. I dont know hangers, Im using his sealing with epoxy method . I place a swivel in a tight belly hole and epoxy as a 'hanger' ...?? ....this one is a lot slimmer than the 1st.

justplugit 08-10-2007 09:38 AM

Beautiful work. :btu:

Tagger 08-10-2007 02:25 PM

what # test is that belly swivel ? if its a krock its probably impressive ... i like hangers on little plugs .. I know Gary likes a finer wire .. I'm using 1/16

pops 08-10-2007 04:55 PM

120 ? m going to look for some smaller diam. wire too...
how do you make a hanger ?

practice... not so hard ... fill hole with plumbers epoxy.

pops 08-10-2007 06:03 PM

Thanks...plumbers epoxy ?

Tagger 08-10-2007 06:21 PM

H D plumbing dept ... clear tube ,red ends .. looks and feels like grey playdo with a black core... rip off a small chunk .. mix in fingers jam in hole .. Gets very hard ,, somewhat sandable ,,water resitant .. use sparingly .. $6 and some change a tube ..

pops 08-10-2007 07:10 PM

thanks....nice plug btw :spin: do you wight them any way ? or just use wood density / lip angle, length ?

Tagger 08-10-2007 08:14 PM

Pops ... thats the one I made from a beach chair .. unweighted maple.. I traced a cordell redfin for the lure . I tipped a real redfin nose side down on the edge of a table and traced the lip on a piece of paper for a template ..I'll swim this this weekend ,. too many irons in the fire .. keep forgettin .
