verizon FIOS

anybody have this Fios for their internet? I am looking to getting it to replace Comcast altogether for internet and TV. It seems like a good deal. We have about 6 MBPS now with comcast and fios offers 5 mbps and 20 mbps, I think we'll start with 5, it's 10 bucks cheaper.
thoughts anyone? comments?

I like the little kid in the ad if that counts for anything. "You got your 1310, your 1490, and your 1550.............

Clueless 08-07-2007 11:18 PM

I've had FIOS TV, internet, and phone since last December. No problems at all with anything. TV is $23/month less than Comcast and internet is 15/2 vs. I think 5M/256k for the same price ($45/month). I can't remember ever having an outage.

On the downside, Verizons on demand isn't as good as comcast. The other thing to be aware of is your phone will change to VOIP from copper, and is then reliant on you having power. They install a UPS so you'll have phone during shorter outages, but if you lost power for a long time, I think you'll lose phone eventually.

I just signed up for the whole package, phone internet and TV. I did it mainly for the TV since they have, by far, the best Hi Def serivce. The faster internet and the cheaper phone were side benefits. They'll be installing it in a couple of weeks.

I've had it for almost a year now and I love it. Phone,Internet, and TV....never had a problem.

so that means i'm stuck with charter for internet service...

and they want $79 a month for a dsl connection... thats steep!

i'm looking at satellite service for $49.00 but

your S-t out of luck

the more people that sign up for it on a particular street....

they get the service earlier than other streets because then verizon knows it has instant clientel on that street and it gets done first.

your town officials........because...

a town i used to live in (Northboro) got all Huffy with Verizon

and voted to not allow fios in their town at all...

saying... you either give it to everyone or none at all...

2boxers 08-08-2007 01:47 PM

Yes no where in 02048 is there FIOS

Slipknot 08-08-2007 03:20 PM

thanks for the replies
We are gonna do it
The biggest reason for switching is to get away from Comcast the monopoly, and to save about 45 bucks total. Also to get the NFL channel without having to pay extra for it since comcast realigned their channels so we can't get NFL without paying extra for it.

they have a special deal for 99 bucks all 3 internet, phone and TV, but ofcourse there is extras, but we still save money.

MakoMike 08-08-2007 03:26 PM

Slip,
I got a flyer on my door that offered all three for $95. By the time I got done with the Hi Def DV-R, The sports & Movie package and HBO and Std. Def in the bedrooms it came out to $144 a month.

Slipknot 08-08-2007 04:01 PM

yep, and the wife adds stuff to the phone that we have now like 4 bucks for wire maintenence on phonelines, then you have to have the TV boxes, she wants the DVR , and then there's taxes, ends up around 150 and we are paying about 200 for all three now.

Raven 08-08-2007 04:54 PM

i can't and i won't

do business with Charter communications EVER again

i was just reading about their installation requirements

and they won't let you do anything yourself and that clinched it..

so i will be getting a satellite dish for
my broadband internet connection
instead of getting bent over by those bastids

all paid for today and i'll be up and running
right on schedual... :btu:

gone fishin 08-08-2007 08:22 PM

Slip - you are going to love it. I signed up for the whole bang long ago and find the service excellent. I now get everything in one bill. 2 land lines, cells, cable, internet and I saved a bundle over RCN.
I also found that when there is a problem they answer quickly and have knowledgable techs to talk to. Speeeek engelisc also!:rotf2: :grins: :rotf2:

I've dealt with Verizon DSL tech support several times and my main complaint was non-English speaking agents..Can't understand a f%$#@ word they say..:af: JohnR can confirm that one..:call: :call:
What I dislike about the Verizon deal is that you have to sign a 2 yr contract..F that

There are bloofish in your brakes

TheSpecialist 08-09-2007 06:00 AM

Slip as others say, you will love it. The stuff is selling like gangbusters.

The speeds currently offered are 5/2 mbs, 20/5, and 50/10. Just to clarify the phone is not Voip, it uses a separate bandwith on the fiber, the power supply, and battery back-up are for the equipment that changes the light to a digital signal at the house. You are on your own fiber, sharing with noone, which means that when johny rotten comes home from school and starts dowloading your speed will not drop unlike the competition. Also the competition's phone is Voip, so when their internet is down so is your phone.

Bruce the inside wire maintence will save you 95 bucks for a service call if the trouble is inside the house, but since you know a phoneguy.....

BTW the tech support for DSL maybe in India, but the tech Support for Fios is here, they actually have an office in Providence, Virginia, California, and Texas, that was a union negotiated thing with the FIOS.

Thats all for now gotta go install some light....:uhuh:
