ive done alot of bait fishing this year out of the canal.. particularly recently...

i have probably caught well over 100 skates in the last month alone...

but not a single dogfish?
not that im complaining.. but that seems weird to me.

Maybe they're in a big dog pound :)

I've caught more dog fish this summer in Vineyard Haven harbor than all other fish species combined. Sometimes I land 5 and 6 a night. Damn near 10 dogfish for every 1 striper.

No Dogs?

Maybe Michael Vick had been fishing there before you.

I caught a bunch of them off Gloucester and was happy when we moved and they were fewer and farther betweem

I bait fish the canal all the time and I must say I hardly ever pull out any skate. Occasional dogfish, fluke, crabs, starfish but never skate. Guess I'm lucky but don't worry once you get that first dog you'll have five behind it eating all the Mackerel.:nailem:

Brian,

Try Scusset Beach area with bait...especially chunk macks now into September.... lots of doggies usually.

Maybe they don`t like the strong currents.... no idea on this really.

yea, i heard that as well. Dogfish don't like currents, they like calm slackwater on the top of the flood.

:jump: I walked from Plymouth to Race Point on their backs.:jump:

Sunday I was out by the Gurnet in the boat, there were literally thousands of them cruising the surface all around the boat. Wish I had the camera.

Camera?

Wish I had a gun!
