AFAW Rods

Just got done building my first Any Fish Any Where (AFAW ) Rod . I have to tell you this is the most perfect rod blank I have ever seen. Most rods have a bend to them about ˝” + thru out the rod. The AFAW Blank had ZERO deflection. Tobias you’re going to love it. Hope you go large with it.

Thumb-Burner you got a great product there. You will do well with them keep up the good work.

BasicPatrick 08-25-2007 04:28 PM

I got to throw one of these from a freind that had just built his recently...damn fine heaver...will be nice for jigging the canal or throwing heavy weight & Bait...

Mine is on the way

Remember to put the 12 footer aside for me too.

ShipWrecked 08-25-2007 07:56 PM

tobias 08-25-2007 07:59 PM

Can't wait to see it. Just in time for my Cutty trip:happy:

ShipWrecked 08-25-2007 08:18 PM

Mr. Sandman 08-26-2007 08:40 AM

guess we'll be out there same time ... let me try.. damm ,, guess I need another rod ..

Mike P 08-26-2007 11:45 AM

Um, I can tell you that it fights a small bluefish very well when you're holding the rod in one hand and the reel in the other :rotf3: :hihi:

Up locking reel seat :wall:. Make sure you check it for tightness every few casts because if you have big hands like mine, the heel of your hand can loosen it.

I did manage to get the fish in with JP's help.

Just goes to show ya.......

How two educated guys can turn a nice rod and an excellent reel into a first class handline.

Mike P 08-26-2007 09:07 PM

Oh, the review?

This rod can cast. I babied my casts for awhile, then I finally laid into one--not full out, but close. It threw a 3 oz tin well past halfway, using a Daiwa 20 SHA and 65# Sufix braid. Which is pretty thick stuff.

The rod was wrapped with spinning guides, and it was the 12' model.

Thumb-Burner 08-27-2007 02:07 PM

thanks for the kind words mike

some new developments coming soon.. prototypes of a new AFAW line of rods are on the way to me... there are five new rods.. 9 through 13'ers... retail on the 9'er will be around 150 i believe and about 225 for the 13'er...

I'll post details when i have them, but these will obviously not have the same components and blanks as our current line (which we will obviously continue to offer) but should prove to be an excellent value..

more to come.

Again, for those of you interested, contact Mike at Cape Cod or Big Dave if you are interested in rods or blanks.

Hey Kevin, I'll have three of the rods with me at Cutty if you want to cast them. I might have a fourth, we'll see:D

Thanx Tobias....I'll give it a whirl while I'm out there.

Big Dave 08-28-2007 05:19 PM

Hey Mac

I made sure to stand behind as I was watching. as Jim said. it took two to land that blue with a hand line. Just had to shake my head and smile.

RickBomba 08-29-2007 01:04 AM

Tobias,
I'd love to give it a try..probably Mikey, too.

jkswimmer 08-29-2007 01:06 AM

Will the UPTIDE make a good spinning rod for the canal to throw surface and metal lures?

RickBomba 08-29-2007 01:11 AM

Oh Yeah,
I'll probably be looking for the 14'

I think it will make a great canal stick. I picked up the stick from Mike for Andy and brought it up. If I had been thinking I would have brought a reel down with me and made a few casts. Rod seems very crisp and should throw 2 to 4 very well.

tobias 08-29-2007 05:06 AM

Not a problem, you guys can try it out too. I'll have the Estuary, Uptide, and Surf and maybe the Universal with me at Cutty.

tobias 08-29-2007 05:08 AM

:thanks: Mike! The wrap job you did on the Uptide is absolutely perfect. Thanks again!

Keep in mind the ferry now charges 10 cents a pound for what you bring over, remember competition is good and the competition is gone ;)

What's up Adam :wavey:
