Marine alternator
Anybody know where I can get a reasonably priced alternator? My wife says if I spend 200 bucks on an alternator she'll kick me in the gonads!
you kidding? $200 for anything for the boat is a steal!!!
I saw one on FleaBay for 70 bucks and the guy had some good ratings, but I don't want to go through Labor Day weekend without fishing at least once!
Marine alternators have some sort of anti-spark thingie in them I was told, thereby allowing the dealer to gaff the customer. Probably nothing in them any different from the ones in a car.
Marine ignition parts are sheilded to prevent sparks in the engine compartment, in case you have some gas fumes in there. That's why they cost so much more than car parts.

What do you think is this a POS? It looks like the one I took out.

That will work fine. Do you have a 1 wire alt now? If not may need to get a new diagram.
It is a 1 wire alternator on there now.
I might as well just go for it. I just need to get through the Fall run. I have bigger repairs to make this off-season(like everyone else), so I'd like to get away cheaply for now. |
I ended up finding out that my alternator has a custom housing. Got it rebuilt by a guy in Weymouth for an excellent price. Saved big bucks over buying a new one.
