Dumb Question but...

I have a question for anyone that may have an answer. I was in the sporting goods store tonight and saw those 9" sluggos, and they said they were good for stripers but I had never heard of anyone using them. Kind of curious. Anyone out there ever tried them??

Jenn,

I'm watching you Yes....I use them dead drifting in the rips at the ditch. Use a 1 1/2 oz to a 3 oz leadhead to jig as well. I never rigged them with those funny looking hooks they give ya....only with leadheads. Work amazing. Give it a shot...you won't be sorry!!

Hee,Hee! That's real cute! You have to admit this is getting to be a habit! Of course I am bored tonight so I have pretty much been on the computer all night. But I am sure you already knew that!!!

They are killer eel imitators. All mine are found by bluefish before stripers though. Another good eel imitator is the "Evil Eel" by Kalins.

Lunker City makes a 10 inch Fin-S too. Good for herring/alewive/shad runs.

RE:Dumb Question but...

I throw plastic jerk baits 90% of the time and stripers (& blues) gobble up my hand poured baits like candy. My baits are only 7 inches long and I've never seen the need for anything bigger, although I've used the larger baits and they do work. I will go to the bigger baits when it's very rough or I know there are larger fish in the area. I've posted pictures on the way I rig my baits and prefer a weighted 5/0 Owner 90 degree jig hook over a lead head jig. Plastic works great and I would strongly recommend you give them a try, but don't limit yourself to the 9" Sluggos. There are times, especially early fall, when the stripers are keyed in on the smaller bait and you will do much better with a smaller piece of plastic.

Tight lines.
