A new personel best

PUMPKIN, that is. This one grew to but 430#'s this year. Another is about 250 #'s. How about pumpkin beer?

No Pics...But I'm up for the Brew

Gotta get pics!

Congrats. Did you use a Dill Atlantic seed or a LaRue seed. I just watched a PBS show on channel 44 about growing giant pumpkins. Man it looks more addicting than plugbuilding. Webgroup and everything. Very interesting show you should look and see when it is on again you would enjoy it. Top fruit was 1240 lbs. It was done in upstate NY and the weigh in was in Cooperstown. My family has a giant pumpkin groing contest every year, but we've never gotten a true giant yet.

I had a good one on the vine, at the end of july it was maybe 100-125, we went away for the weekend and someone actually went into the garden and stole it. It had to take two guys to carry that out of there... It was the only pumpkin on the plant, so that sucked...

Nice Swimmer, look forward to the pics. :)

Do you just cull out to 1 on each vine?

Swimmer 09-10-2007 02:49 PM

These are Dill distributed seeds that come from known growers. I do cull down to just one fruit. All my vines split and the big one is growing on a secondary vine. Learned a lot this year. Got behind about five/six weeks because of screw ups. I am going to plant middle of April next year and cover/protect the plants really good. Vine borers almost did me in half way through the seaon. I am going outside to take pics now and will post. The big one is ten feet around which is small by most standards, but it is only my third year.

I watched that same show, I made it a point to point it out to the wife......you think I'm Obsessed with fishing, you should see these Pumpkin Farmers.....They're nuts.

Patches sabotaged by other growers, Video surveillance setup on the Patches, they don't go away for more than a day so they can take care of the pumpkins.

The coolest thing was the guy that said he had a pumpkin that was growing 40 lbs. a day , said he could actually see it growing.
