Needed, MV basics

Looks like the wife and I will be headed to the Vinyard for the week after next. I have never been before, but I have read up a little bit. I anyone would be so gracious as to send me some very basic information on access and any other tips I would greatly appreciate the help. You can PM or email me direct if preferred at rphud@comcast.net.

Thanks in advance, Bob Huddy

This time of year access is generally not much of a problem. As the residence restrictions tend to lax. The problem is that a lot of spots are not marked very well. Best bet would be to get a Road Atlas for the Cape and the Islands. That way you can see all the roads. Try finding a copy of "Reading The Water" by Post. With that book and an atlas you will do fine.

ditto on "reading the water" by dr. post.

as far as specific spots, consult "striper hot spots" by frank daignault.

my suggestion: pick a venue that looks interesting to you, and focus on it through various tide stages.

also, keep plugged into what the folks at the tackle shops are saying. a stop into larry's, coop's, and #^&#^&#^&#^&'s b&t are MUSTS if conditions are tough. thankfully, the fall is a good time to be on the island.

mv has everything. sand. rocks. sand and rocks. rocks and sand. sound & open ocean. inlets. salt ponds. jetties. piers.

if you don't focus, it will quickly overwhelm you.

focus, and be sure to match your equipment to the locale.

thanks much

Got the book and read it over the winter, so it will go along for the ferry ride along with a new atlas so it seems. Thanks for help. See you on Cutty B'turbed.

Stop in to visit Cooper Gilkes at Coops Bait and tackle in Edgartown...I'm sure you read about him in the book...:kewl:he is a great guy and will set you up with a few good spots that will be easy to get to. tell him Joe Dalton from Nextel sent you.
