I officially hate bluefish now

last night, I lost my fairly new Tattoo Sea Dog to what I think was most likely a bluefish! It would have been the second damn fish I landed on the plug! It was a heartbreaker. Before that I caught a schoolie bass, but I find it highly unlikely that a schoolie bass could roll and cut 50lb test mono..but I guess anything is possible.

At least you lost it to a fish it could have been worse.

Nothing worse than losing one to a mooring or a pot.

I hear that guys, that does really suck when you get hung up and lose a nice plug. You are right though, it wasn't quite that bad because it wasn't really my fault that I lost it... but that kind of makes it more frustrating at the same time

Sucks losing nice plugs, once blues show up I use 80 lb mono. Lose less gear that way

I'd rather lose a plug to a blue then a seal anyday. Still sucks though either way.

I lost one to a seagull once...watched it fly away in the seagulls mouth

Bluefish have saved many a trip for me. Blauefish are bad sometimes but skunks are always worse.

The most disappointing of all ways to lose a lure is to cast it off by screwing up the cast. Its off your line before it even hits the water. IMO that's the worst! I actually talk to myself when that happens. I use the word stupid often while talking to myself in those circumstances. :).

I think the worse is when you are casting and the bail clicks over then SNAP the plug goes sailing. This never happens with the Penns' ss series.

my 9 year old son had 2 10lb bluefish on an afterhours pencil last week- when i went in the wash to land them the 50 lb. leader broke about 6 inches above the plug. 1 20 dollar plug vs hand-to-hand combat with 20 lbs of pee'd off bluefish on 1 plug wasnt worth it... but watching them swim off attached at the lip was pretty funny.

thinking i'd be mad my son learned about "the cost of doing buisness"

If any of you guy catch a bluefish with a tattoo 3oz sea dog in it's maw, it's MINE and yes I want it back! even if it's in RI or Long Island or something, it's possible the fish was scared and took off so I will send you my address....

Last year, I threw a Habbs pencil into a pile of rocks and landed it on a seagull. I hooked the bird in it's back and tried reeling it in to take the hook out with with my long de-hooker. Just like a big fish, it went crazy when it saw me and the boat and freaked out. I actually considered getting it close enough to club it to death, but ended up cutting the line. I figured if the Big Guy Upstairs wanted those flying rats on earth, I wasn't going to mess with my fishing karma by killing one.

Had the same thing with a pelican in FL
and a commorant at night. Thought it was a bat, that was a 20 min fight.
