Anybody take any good fish under daylight in the last few days?

Made my first casts during the daytime since probably mid may. Big surprise!.......dink bass.

Hoping to get some good fish on topwater before the season's end.

I"ve been hitting the occasionaly schoolies around sunset, that's it though! although this is the time of year I really start to get pyched up about sunset/sunrise times on topwater

What...no 40 lb'er. Geesh this thread was a dissappointment. :hihi:

If i get anythng of any size during the day its usually early morning and late evening....any other time I'm using my freshwater setup for the dinks

day fishing is for people that are afraid of the dark!

No fish here on the North Shore (day or night), esspecially not a 20+ pounder mid-afternoon last week, or 12-15 pounders late afternoon this week. They must all be in Rhody.

i've actually managed a few nice bass over 30 lbs. during the daytime.

on chunks and live bait as well as plugs.

time of year matters - May and Oct/Nov.

Charlie Graves tins and small wooden surface poppers, maker is escaping me at the moment, were not involved in catching these fish.

Smack-its.....big time fall popper up in these parts.

as some one who has caught his biggest fish, for each and every species caught, during the day. most of them at around noon in mid summer. i cannot be a bigger fan of day fishing...
that said..

i haven't caught squat during the day since beginning of august. how ever this probably due to being forced out of my day spot by.. what the word for people who enjoy the ocean but not fishing?.. by them, during the month of august.. and well now it's too freakin cold. i'm not going out in that water until i finaly get my pair of waders.. sure the water i can probably handle.. but the air.. forget it.

still... the action is definitely hottest at sunset. slows down a bit and stays constant till sunrise.. then it explodes again for about 2 hours. and then nothing all day.

ofcourse.. i havent managed to hook into any of the bass all month.. just stand there casting hopelessly into them feeding.. the fact my buddy has had my gear for a week aint helping that much either :af:

i can say the blues are never short.. catch those all day every day lately. infact they have caused me to do much less fishing in the past few weeks. i'm getting tired of their antics.

this weekend though.. i shall change all that. i have a really good feeling. a really really good feeling.

now watch me not be able to get out at all. :bc:

Nothing huge, but 20# on metal

I've been doing pretty well with 2 ounce pencils during the day. Fish to about 32 inches fairly consistently.

I went out after work from12:00 till 2:00 pm loaded with bass feeding on decent size bunker. I tried evreything in my bag managed to get 6 fish all between 24 and 27 inches on a 5 inch storm. I did see a couple of barely keepers caught.No bluefish

I did on Cutty....late morning...17.5 pounds. Smashed a silverback Herring 1 3/4 ounce pencil! Thats it in the avatar!:cool:

I don't waste my time, never caught anything but tiny fish. When I fish I want a chance at a giant at all times, I don't feel that is the case fishing during the day.

My two biggest fish: Mid-August, mid-day, mid-40lbs, eight minutes apart. Go figure.

I just left fish blitzing, you know where, Luds.... up to 29" on Butterfish and white Storms. Had to leave for B'day dinner.....not what I had in mind, but.....will be going back tonight, because I can:jester: And tmw before work. "Ah, #^&#^&#^&#^&....I have a few bids to do. Don't fish in the daylight often, but did 10 fish up to 16lbs on SS little necks at sunset on Monday someplace in "Mecca" (after dark it was Habs Neddles:bl:)

Lost one in the wash yesterday at sunset (waves to big to get him on the rocks).
Guessing somewhere around 30, took about 75 yards on a 150 on the first run with the drag set pretty good.

Nothing durring the day except for blue dogs. But night..... now thats a different story........

Daaaammnnn! I am doing something wrong. I havent caught anything except what I think are smooth dogfish for weeks, day or night!

I just got back from a lunch fish, and got two in 30 minutes from the rocks. A 31" and a 35".

1. get it off the bottom some how.
2. try showing up an hour or two earlier than you usually do. i tend to lay in to fish for a lil while, and then right after the fish have left the area the dogs start cleaning up behind em. i usually will call it quits after two or three in a row. just because atl east around here they show in numbers right BEHIND the fish.

i think daytime bass fishing is actually underrated...i just think it depends on where and what conditions you are fishing in...structure during the day is more important but daytime has produced some satisfying fish for me...for me, it the visual strike that keeps me coming back for more...that to me is what is unsatisfying about fishing in the dark...and as matt says, i am scared of the dark...:err:

i used to think that too.. this year found the exact opposite. my biggest producer this year was wiiiiiiiiiide open sandy beach from 9am till around 2pm. on nice bright hot sunny days in the middle of july. no cover what so ever. that same spot same tides was significantly slower at night. and produced much smaller fish. the nice warm outgoing flow was the best.

i think whats more important than the light is the water temps..
for instance.. if the water is lower.. why the hell would bass want to hide? they basically sun themselves. warm up a bit. just like a sunning reptile. so if temps are below the comfort zone fish will be in wide open water getting nice and warm. if the water temps are high.. then the exact opposite. and they avoid the sun at all costs.

i really really dont pay any initial attention to day or night. first i consider the water temps. then from there.. then i figure out the best time or place.

put it this way.. say it's 50 degrees out.. nice but not hot.. are you gonna sit in the shade? probably not cause it's more comfortable in the sun. and when its 95 your gonna hide under something.

the main problem with day time fishing is people... i was forced out of my spot by beach people. if i was awake for 7am out going i could squeeze in a few hours till i got crowed out.

i need to get out there tomorrow..now that i have waders. see what happens. but i think the water is a bit to warm for the day down there right now. atleast on sunny days.

Doc......fish a quarter to half moon with a surface swimmer (preferably a "Prey" swimmer) its like fishing during the day......you can see them smash it on top bigtime!:drool:
