Working Hard for a Few
I've been out twice this week sunrise to 8am. When I say thousands of fish I'm probably understating it. I could probably net them next to the boat if I tried. They are rolling on the top in huge numbers for acres and acres. Nothing works, top water or rubber down below. I've hooked 2 on the first cast this week with a spook and then after that nothing. My buddy and I have managed 6 fish between us in 2 days. met a friend of mine out there who is a guide and he wasn't getting anything either even on the fly. Too much bait I guess for us to compete right now. I don't know what is more frustrating not seeing the fish and catching nothing or seeing acres and acres of fish and catching just a few. Anyone else having difficulty like this right now? I'm back at it tomorrow and I won't be rushed to get to work by 9 so maybe it'll happen. I'm still looking for a keeper or hooking up with regularity.

better than working hard for nothing. I would think a $4 bag of storm shads would do the trick, but figuring the puzzle is part of the fun.

I know, I almost wasn't going to post this thread but figured I'd see how others are doing. Don't get me wrong it's a blast out there but anything to help the ratio go in my favor is always appreciated. I love this time of year.

try umbrella rigs green

In this area there are plenty of fish breaking and feeding. Not having a problem hooking them though. i've been sticking with hat works, a gags grabber popper. I think one is called creek chub. Pop-pop-bang fish on. It was non stop for a few hours this morning.
Try the match the hatch tricks. I'll be at it again tomorrow AM. I love the fall run.......:D:bl: |
small umbrellas trolled fast to keep them high in the water. I change speed when casting from as fast as I can to normal speed, seems you get the hit just as you slow down.

metal...
I have been doing well in those blitzes throwing metal. It is probably 1 oz. , tube-shaped with a single hook. They have been crushing it, as well as a 9 inch white sluggo with a 3/4 oz. jig head on it, good luck! But, I would go to the canal right now if I were you. :D
