Mouth of the Merrimack Newburyport MA

My friend's dad has offered to take us out in his new boat tomorrow A.M. for a day of fishing around the mouth of the Merrimack River in Newburyport. Can we expect to find any stripers/blues/mackeral this late in the season?

I am a freshwater bass fisherman, and don't really know about this type of fishing. Will I be able to throw plugs or soft plastics on jigheads, or should we just stick to live/cut bait? In short, any help you could give me to put us on fish and how to catch them would be most appreciated.

Thank you.

Zach,

D: All of the above!!!
There should still be bass/blues/ and macks around there although it is winding down there.

Bass: plugs/poppers/swimmers/jigs/soft plastics/ cut bunker/herring/mackeral
Blues: all of the above but don't overlook topwater plugs/poppers
macks: christmas tree/mackeral rigs ( 4 or 5 small flies or diamond jigs with a bucktail on the bottom) jigged vertically in a school... 4 or 5 mackeral on at once racing in diferent directions is always fun <img src="/Images/biggrin.gif"><!--e7-->

Good luck,

John
