Massive Blitz at 0200 Hours?
 

Do fish go on an ALL-OUT BLITZ in the middle of the night like they do during the day-light hours? ....when some of U say, you saw acres of fish blitzing....do you think these same actions happen...at say..............2AM???

i encountered a few blitzes late night at a well-known spot/motel in SoCo where the floodlights shone on the water. birds diving too.

They were last night in Duxbury Bay near a large wooden structure;):hee:;):hee:

Out of curiousity, at 2AM...... how did you(s) see such a massive Blitz?

Lit Dock area?
Lit Bridge area?
Full Moon on da boat?

Does the sound of fish feeding sound like softball sized hailstones hitting the water sound about right?

large schools of fish feeding on the surface at night will appear as dark patches moving around a little faster then the current.this can be seen on calm nights.have seen blitz at the motel in soco as well never did fish it thou.

They are in stealth mode and try to come in close and ambush pray

You can tell by the bait getting pushed onto shore and fish are hitting on every cast or so.

Dark patches?? Explain please....at 2am dark patches can be current, gusts of wind. How is a Dark Patch a Full Blown Blitz??

I can remember fishing the lit-up docks of Gallilee at 2am for tinker mackerel while they were "blitzing" the silversides constantly and the birds only watched from the tops of the dock poles while the entire area between docks was being terrorized. Interesting though, I wouldn't think birds would be working schools as well. Then again 15 years ago I'd-a never thought you could catch mackerel at 2am.

Ive gotten into blitzes in the middle of the night before. Bass and blues going insane on P-nuts. No moon,but when you looked against the dark horrizon you couldt literally see huge white slpashes everywhere. It was awesome.

Not with birds or full blown but lots of top water during a worm hatch.

birds genereally won't be there at night unless there is alot of
light. To me a blitz is more defined by the # and behavior of the fish and not the bird activity. There are lots of daytime blitzes too that I've seen without birds for some reason.

I've seen bait at night get coralled and attacked by schools of fish. 8 - 10 attacks at a time. That's NOT what I mean.

I'm referring to at least 100 yds by 100 yds of "wall to wall carpet". Do they attack in these numbers during the weewee (not you Ben) hours of the night??

I would think the ONLY way to actually witness this would be from a boat - I don't think you can really see really 100yds X 100yds from shore at night, but in a boat...you'd probably have a better chance, and you'd have to be right in the middle of it all...otherwise how could really see the actual size of it right? It would still be a guess-timate....but that's the type of Blitz I'm talking about.

as I said "dark pacthes " can be seen on calm nights and are moving at a deffrent pace as the water have seen it a few times as big as your talking I guess not yet still a blitz to me, any time there is a school of fish feeding on top I am in a blitz no? birds I have only seen once at the hotle in soco.things slow down at night so it won't be as ferocious.
