Montauk has gotten really bad.....more than $3k of stuff gone last few weeks.
Of the hotel porches few years ago a scum stole the VS of the store counter while owner was servicing other customer and one guy had his rod cut with bolt cutters to get to reel |
That happen in ganset last year to around the same timee keep your eyes open.
|
could we get a physical description of the equipment peddlers so we can keep an eye out for them?
|
c'town b'way had a problem late in the season last year. 3 or 4 trucks hit in the lot between 4 and 6 in the evening on tuesday/wednesday nights. it started mid to late oct thru early nov if i remember correctly. gone are the days of leaving a spare in your rig if its out of eye sight.

What has the world come to.:rollem:
|
i used to carry a ton of backup in the truck- no more.....only take what i carry- pia. theives suck bigtime! why do you think they hung horse thieves.....
|
Cutting the rod with bolt cutters to get at the reel is a nice touch. Nasty stuff.

Wasn't there a thread on here not too long ago about someone catching thieves red handed? Not sure what happened but thrashing them to a pulp was thought to have occurred. Too bad you can't use lethal force to protect property in this state.
I'd rather them take my stuff than confront the thievery in progress because the snubnose WILL come out barking. I don't want to go to jail over a few hundred dollars and I'm a terrible actor. |

two hispanics, no accent. Driving a supra/eclipse type car, blueish silver. Mass plates. I got the license # but like a moron didn't write it down. |
I just had a GPS stolen out of my car in front of Miriam Hospital. I hate thieves. They are pretty brazen trying to sell those rods in that fashion but it just shows how stupid they are. They'll get busted!

This stuff sucks. Happened to me last year pretty close to this time as well. I hope they burn in hell. Or at least fall off a jetty while using my gear.

Heres one for ya! went into BOSTON HARBOR an number of years back. my buddy drove, trailered his boat. fished all day had a great time, comming back in we could not see the TRUCK an TRAILER. im shore you parked it here:doh: talking to a guy that was on the beach
aske if he had seen a BLACK4/4 TRUCK an BOAT TRAILER parked here. he said YES a couple of guys came an TOWED it away.about 1/2 hour ago. END OF STORY . if they want it, they will take it. one of the cops said it most likley in a container, off to who knows where! GOOD LUCK GOOD PLUGGIN:liquify: |
That's just bad news. Bad news. I was at a RI spot the other day, and two guys were casing the lot. They were chased off, but it is still bad news.:realmad:

I don't understand people stealing fishing equipment. To me, fishing equipment has a lot of personal attachment to its owner...a lot of memories were made with that gear. Sometimes I look at a reel and it recalls a trip and a story.
This fall I found a sweet flyrod and reel in the sand. The setup was well over $1000. I once looked at purchasing the exact reel (Tibor) but could not justify the expense because of the frequency that I fly fish. (I am a now and then fly guy) Now I found it on the beach with no one in sight. I took it home, rinsed it off and called a friend at the newspaper to place an ad. It turns out he already knew who lost it and I was able to return it to the angler. To me I got more satisfaction out of returning the rod and reel then I would have from keeping it. I would feel like %$%$%$%$ every time I ever used it.... I know that rod meant a lot to its owner. Stealing fishing gear is worse then stealing money IMO. You take away a piece of someones sole. I know anyone who steals fishing gear will burn in hell forever. |

The best advice I can offer up here is to bring only what you need, don't store anything of value in your vehicle. I used to have a cooler rack on the front of my explorer to keep the stink down inside, but never use it anymore due to theft concerns. My cooler goes inside the rear compartment. If they steal the vehicle, oh well, you tried.
|
I've promised my self to cast on thieves if I catch them in the act. If I'm walking up from the sand and they're futzing with my truck they're gonna get foul hooked hard. A-40 and locked drag. We'll talk when I'm done playing them.

It was very kind of you to get the rod and reel to, let me guess, Nelson (Seigelman, sic) at the Times. |
