Lady Bugs
 

Maybe I should post this in the "Grumpy forum"
But who else has got these frigin lady bugs ???

Ronnie, we have had a small colony of about 10 that come in and make their way to one corner of the dining room
for at least the last 15 years.
Funny, they work their way around the walls slowly over a period of weeks until they hang out together in the spring and leave.
Grand-kids love them and look for them every year.

I have heard of people having 100's of them and you need to find where they're coming in to get rid of them.

the last house i lived in had hundreds of ladybugs

which is Massachusetts state bug by the way...

this house here has a huge infestation though

thousand at least... swarming all over the back
of the house ....on the really warm days...
your could PING the screen on the slider door
sending twenty ladybugs into the air and instantly
a new swarm would replace them.

just standing outside below the deck they would seek me
out as a landing zone and soon i had dozens crawling all over me.

The ones you are seeing to are commonly called Halloween Ladybugs and are not the traditional Lady Bug. The HL is more orange and winters on south facing limestone cliffs. They are actually an invasive species from where else China.

They stink when you squish em and they they just keep coming. I hate them. The orange kind as described above. Probably killed 100 so far this year.

I just read where a commercial farm somewhere in U.S.A. just bought 750,000 lady bugs from a business that grows/hatches them in Minnestota to eat/combat nematodes and aphid problem. That farm is probably next door to your new house Raven.

Ladybugs are one of the most beneficial insects in your garden.
There are only 3 times in the lifespan of a ladybug when they aren't eating bad bugs.
1) before they're born
2) when they pupate from the larval to adult beetle
3) when they're dead.
Otherwise they spend pretty much EVERY waking moment in the pursuit of food.

When you include lacewings and parasitic wasps, it's a down-right nasty jungle out there.
