Unfishable.....
A couple of us hit the Marblehead surf this morning with nothing to show. Just got out of work and took these shots of a favorite reef, and this was almost dead low! Not much chance of fishing it in those conditions... Had to be twenty surfers out off Devereaux Beach! I would not be surprised if one or more become a statistic.....
Note how this place has current from both right and left? |
I found a local low lying beach with the wind at my back. Had an 11 ft Zziplex Bass rod (@1988 vintage), a cleaned and oiled Calcutta, and 20lb braid. Felt like Ron Arra out there. Was throwing a 2 1/2 oz beachmaster danny about 120yds. Ridiculous. Only caught two tiny bass.........but it was the most fun casting I've ever had.

i fished the Block two nights in similar weather. looks unfishable, but you can catch fish.

Caught my largest bass to date with a huge surf. Got beat to hell, but some very large fish in there.

Yeah, I was at that spot this morning as well and I agree, unfishable, believe me I tried. There were most likely fish there, a bunch of birds were feasting on bait a little further down the shore but it would have been a bad decision to try and get to a spot where you could have actually cast in their vicinity, and forget about landing a fish. The wind was just too much, couldn't even get a 3 oz tin out past the first wave, and there was so much bow in the line an effective retrieve was impossible. Lots of weed as well, I had a bottle plug get so mired in cabbage that it snapped my main line above the bimini when I tried to haul it out. All in all a very tough outing, I think I only lasted about an hour, but what a great morning anyway, awesome sight to witness the raw power of nature. Hopefully there will still be some fish around in the aftermath, can't end the season with a skunking.
