its getting insane

SYDNEY (AFP) - Santas in Australia's largest city have been told not to use Father Christmas's traditional "ho ho ho" greeting because it may be offensive to women, it was reported Thursday.

Sydney's Santa Clauses have instead been instructed to say "ha ha ha" instead, the Daily Telegraph reported.

One disgruntled Santa told the newspaper a recruitment firm warned him not to use "ho ho ho" because it could frighten children and was too close to "ho", a US slang term for prostitute.

"Gimme a break," said Julie Gale, who runs the campaign against sexualising children called Kids Free 2B Kids.

"We are talking about little kids who do not understand that "ho, ho, ho" has any other connotation and nor should they," she told the Telegraph.

"Leave Santa alone."

A local spokesman for the US-based Westaff recruitment firm said it was "misleading" to say the company had banned Santa's traditional greeting and it was being left up to the discretion of the individual Santa himself.

I think the problem is because the guy in the Santa suit always said "You Skanky Old" before going into the Jolly Part. :hee:

I champion P.C.'ness all day long, but this is overkill.

Being from the PR of C, what do you think of the banning of the gift drive for soldiers at the polls last week sponsored by the Boy scouts?

Last week, the local Boy Scouts set up boxes at the polling places and requested items be donated like baby wipes, snack bars, toiletry type stuff that could they pack up and send to our Troops for the Holidays. Someone complained that this was "pro" war activity so Cambridge city government ordered all the collection bins removed from public areas.

Friggin Morons. We try and teach these kids to do the right thing, channel their energy positively, and make them productive members of society and we have to deal with this chit. :realmad::wall:

These kids probably came up with this idea on there own and were truly excited about doing it. Idiots

They should put a big wall around Cambridge and let all of the wacky liberals badger each other to death with their warped sense of what's right and wrong. For cryin' out loud. Just because you don't agree with the war doesn't mean that you have to be against helping the people who are overseas serving our country.

I'm going to start a campaign to close all of the food banks in Cambridge. I don't like that they support the war on hunger.

I used to live in Cambridge and it doesn't surprise me that some over liberalized nut would say that and get that kind of activity shut down.
Cantebridgians will turn anything into a political crusade, I used to get all kinds of nuts knocking on my door to support some crazy cuase

There are a lot of things that city hall has done that I am at odds with, this is just another addition to that list.

I am around a lot of people who call themselves "liberal", my lady included. Myself personally, I am more on the radical end of that spectrum, but I am realist, something I have in common with many conservatives. Granted, I don't support the war in Iraq, never have, never will- but to disallow residents of this municipality to partake in the good of giving to soldiers is a travesty. To say that care packages to troops is an endorsement of Bushes war policy is a gross mis-analysis. Just because, ideologically, they should not be there, does mean they should not eat while already there. This is just one of many things I don't like about this example of exclusionary of liberal action, for starters, it is incredibly close minded and arrogant and it is impractical, it effectively mirrors the stubborn "right". Another issue I find amongst those who make those who come up with such abhorrent claims is that this person suffers from a general disconnect from the practical functionality of the real world, and a crippling lack of exposure courtesy of their pampered Brattle Street utopian existences.

Those of you who have lived Cambridge, particularly should be familiar with likes of North Cambridge, East Cambridge and Area 4. Although gentrification has hit these areas hard, it is far removed from the Harvard Sq. coffee houses and city hall forums were some of this liberal lunacy originates. That is the Cambridge that I know.
