Looking For A Large Piece Of Wood?

Can anyone recommend any place on the South Shore of Mass. where I can get a large piece of White Pine or Basswood approx. 6 feet long by 12 inches wide by 8 inches thick?? I have a couple of carving projects to do and I need some wood!

You try Downes and Reader .. I'd call ,, they sell up to 8/4 off the racks .. What you want may be special order.. $$ .. basswood carves great . Some woods the grain may stear you this way or that way .. Never carved white pine ,, very soft turning though ,, ayc supposedly good carving wood .

Where is Downes and Reader Ed? Basswood is preferred.....I will be using spokeshaves and other assorted carving tools so basswood is ideal! Thanks for any info Ed!:kewl:

Mac got it ,,, Oh yea .. You pay by the board foot there,, 12"x12"x1".

You get to meet the tally man and his magic stick .. Don't expect your figuring to match his .. Mac ... want to go down with Larry and watch him fight with the tally man .?:hihi:

Ask around there probably is a guy with a portable sawmill around you. The tree service guys would probably know who since they are one of the sources for logs. Pine and basswood logs are pretty easy to find in New England and are not worth much lately.
