February 9th: 9th Annual SWE Fishing Show

When: February 9th, 2008
Where: Hotel Viking in downtown Newport
Time: 10am - 4pm

ADMISSION IS FREE!

SEMINARS ARE FREE!

Directions to the Hotel Viking

Join us Saturday February 9th for our annual event that includes fly tyers, plug and rod builders, charter captains, educational seminars, and great raffle prizes. We are holding this event at a new location this year, the Hotel Viking in downtown Newport.

This year's show figures to be the best one yet with a continuously growing list of invited characters & personalities from within the industry. More details on exactly who and what you can expect to find at the show will be posted here as they become available. Expect all your favorite regulars as well as many new names and seminars.

Our Conservation Raffle, thanks to the generosity of both those who attend and those who donate prizes, has raised over $17,000 since it’s inception for a variety of fisheries and coastal access advocacy groups. This year’s raffle will be a little different as the proceeds will go directly to help support the family of our good friend John Haberek who passed away on September 23, 2007.

Raffle prizes should be even more impressive this year; many plug builders, fly tyers, and manufacturers are crafting some beautiful one off items in light of the worthy cause.

Keep an eye on this thread for all the details!

Here's the thread from last year's show for those who have never been before and want to get a feel for what it's all about.

Hope to see you all there!

Newport in the winter. You'd be amazed what you can find when you shop around. It's cheaper then renting the Hyatt at Goat Island.

Although I do like the Goat Island location, they're remodeling this year so we had to find a new spot. If this is better we'll stay, if not, we'll go back.

Newport is pretty hopping in the winter. My wife and I do a weekend down there during the winter festival in February each year. I guess I have the dates for this year picked out already.

Pete, Any chance that you could finagle the hotel into a group rate for attendees? Just checked the rate and at $129 in Newport is not bad, but just wondering?

I will take a look and see if we can work something out. :btu:

There's definitely a much less expensive hotel nearby (a mile or so away) right on 1st beach if I can't get some sort of deal worked out with the Viking.

Pete,

I know it is not a major contribution (like a boat or large cash hoard) but I would be happy to send you a bunch of 08 fishing log calendars to add to your awards. You have a great show there (one of my favorites) and the demonstrations are top. Some of the fly tying guys are the best I have ever seen anyplace...lots of good stuff to check out too.

Anyway, if interested let me know.

All the best.
Jim
