Steve McKenna

Steve called me this morning his leg was completeley numb and cold,he asked me to take him back to the hospital I picked him up and took him in, they have admitted him again with another Clot, this just keeps getting worse, anyway, Steve is back in the Hospital for those who want to know..

Back Beach 12-05-2007 02:31 PM

That sucks Bill. I had just read recently that Steve was out and about, even taking a few casts. Give him my best wishes for a speedy and permanent recovery.

RIROCKHOUND 12-05-2007 02:32 PM

Echo what Mike said. Wish him my best.
Bryan

piemma 12-05-2007 02:44 PM

Ditto from me Bill. I really feel bad for the guy. he is having a tough go of it. I had a year like that in 03

Yes, I told him today I was going to just go to Miriam...I hate Kent, they have no clue what they are doing, after 5 Clots its time for a second opinion , This is nothing to fool with, at worst it will kill you and with all this numbness in the leg for a couple months now, there is really some permanent tissue damage done..A loss of a limb is a possibility also, Kent is the worst hospital in the state...But he insisted..

Steve has been walking with a cane as of late and has not fished at all.Anyway, I will be there for him and keep everyone posted..

Zeno 12-05-2007 03:45 PM

Darn ,again ?
I just got his note in the mail.Tell him we have him in our thoughts

1dozenraw 12-05-2007 03:46 PM

Hey Bill.... Best wishes to him. He won't remember me as I only met him once at the shop. He's lucky to have a friend like you to get him where he has to go and keep an eye on him. Good for you and him. Keep the faith.

Saltheart 12-05-2007 03:47 PM

Bill , maybe print info below out and give to Steve.

Cardiovascular Division, Brigham and Women’s Hospital, Harvard Medical School, Boston, Mass.

Samuel Z. Goldhaber, MD, Cardiovascular Division, Department of Medicine, Brigham and Women’s Hospital, 75 Francis St, Boston, MA 02115. E-mail sgoldhaber@partners.org

I posted this before. Its time for him to seek the best available treatment before things go too far. These people are like the #^&#^&#^&#^&#^&#^& and Stevey van Stahl of medicine :) . They will have a whole team of the best in the world looking at his case.

reebok 12-05-2007 03:51 PM

Boston is not too far away. They have some of the best up there.

This is really unfortunate. Tell him we are pulling for him.

JoeP 12-05-2007 04:00 PM

Billy tell him I'm wishing him well and hope he fully recovers very soon.

And I agree, Miriam & RI Hospital are the only places I'd go in RI with a serious medical issue.

snake slinger 12-05-2007 04:16 PM

bill please give steve my best wishes.

fishaholic18 12-05-2007 04:16 PM

Get well soon Steve.
I'll say a prayer for you..

Swimmer 12-05-2007 04:57 PM

There has to be something throwing those clots. Its time to stop screwing around with amatuers and go to
BOSTON! He must be on cumiden or something just like it, and still having the same problem it just isn't appropriate. Prayers being said as I type this.

BigFish 12-05-2007 05:10 PM

Hope Steve gets some competent help! His life is in the balance! Good luck to him.....he will be in my thoughts as he has been!

luds 12-05-2007 05:12 PM

Sorry to hear that. Hang in there Steve.

Kevin M 12-05-2007 05:16 PM

Please let him know that we will keep him in our thoughts and prayers. Hang in there Steve.

afterhours 12-05-2007 05:16 PM

all the best to you steve- get well soon.

DJ Muller 12-05-2007 05:19 PM

Bill-please let Steve know that I sent my regards. I have been meaning to give him a call but I lost his number...another wet cell phone...I'll never learn.

eelman 12-05-2007 05:23 PM

Apreciate it guys, Look, Steve and I are close but I will say he is extrememly stubborn ! The more I tell him to seek a second opinion or look elseware, the more upset he gets, I and everyone else can only say it so much...I just hope this isnt a lesson learned with tragic results...Yes Steve is on coumadin but it isnt helping for some reason he keeps forming deadly clots...I really wish he would see someone else but in the end it isnt up to me...So all I can do is pass it all along..Even his mother cannot get though to him on this, we have all tried..

sorry to hear that. hope you are well. seems like things are complex for steve and it's been a long battle.

ThrowingTimber 12-05-2007 05:45 PM

Billy,

Its awesome that steve has a friend like you to take care of him when stuff goes wrong. Very admirable :claps:

Tell Steve that "Block Island guy" I dont know why, but thats what he calls me, sends his best. Tell him we've all got him in our thoughts and wish him a speedy recovery.

Well I can count the "true friends" I have on less than one full hand , so I take it serious when one of them is hurt or in need and will always be there for them! I just hope this works out..

Ron A 12-05-2007 06:18 PM

This is terrible and I hope and pray to see Steve return to the surf. I met Steve at Wildwood Outfitters last year -and he is a fine idividual.

I agree wholeheartedly. WE just had a bout of clots with my grandfather. (He is 88) He has been on Coumadin for approx 50 years. So when it was found out to be a clot in his leg the doctors at Brockton Hospital were dumbfounded. His hemotoligist was called in.

. His red blood cell count is too high due to a blood disorder. ( a form of cancer that attacks the bone marrow) The bone marrow is making his body produce extra red blood cells (I don't remember the technical term) For now we have him on a daily injection of lovinox (?) and hydroxyurea (sp?). In addition we have to take him once a week to be bled.

I guess the point I am trying to make is a second opinion sounds like it is needed. Something is wrong and needs to be addressed. Being stubborn could have bad consequences. I hope it doesn't and wish him well.

basshunter 12-05-2007 07:28 PM

Is there a mailing address that cards or well wishes could be sent,
or do you think he'd prefer to just stay in peoples thoughts as he is now?
