more bad news,sorry.prayers needed
this morning Harry Koons of The Nauset Angler in Orleans passed away suddenly.he was 57.He apparently fell overnight.GOD BLESS.
|
Oh man, that is so sad. He had been sick for a very long time so I wonder if that contributed? Harry was a character for sure, and some didn't care for his "way" (jealous, maybe?) - but lots of fun to fish with and swap stories with. A great guy and he will be missed.

Is that the shop on the road down to Nauset Beach??? That is a shame...sorry to hear that.

My thoughts and prayers. Way too young..

Well that sucks Bob, damm shame. Harry always cheerfully said yes when I asked him if he would come and speak at the old Fly fishing seminar series I ran back in the early nieties with Capt. Ron Murphy, charterboat Stray Cat, for the Osterville Anglers Club.
He must of spoke at least five times and graciously held fly tying demos for us as well. Sold me my wifes first minivan as well while he was at Beard's in Hyannis. Well, so long Harry, see you on that big beach someday, you still tied the best Deciever I ever saw. I hope you found peace. |
thoughts and prayers. god bless

Thanks KARL,Ill add to that. When harry was getting into making rods i offered him all my Dale Clemens books to learn how to do fancy butt wraps and loads of thread to get started. He took the ball and ran with it.Then as you said the "birds" did a job on him.Over the next few years he lost interest in the rod building and offered me his power wrapper[i already have one] for peanuts.we argued about how much and "why"and i tried to encourage him to keep it up.In the end he said "just get it out of here" so we argued some more and i gave him what i thought it was worth and he gave me back half. This spring he was going to get rid of all his benches and stock.Well, round and round we went again. In the end we moved all the rest into my cellar and "that's where it should be "he said,I don't want any f..n money.Today,I was over at Big Cliff pond trolling around in a jon boat[named JAWS]that I bought[after argueing about price]from him.I had this passing thought about him just before it started to snow then it faded away.I buzzed around in the snow, calm, and quiet for appx an hour then decided to get home before the crazies took over the roads.I got in around 2 and the phone rang a firefighter friend told me what had happened. He was a unique individual and i'll miss him every much.oh...HARRY! I know your looking at this.....YOU GOT ME BACK:!!!!!:hihi:today is the 1st day I didn't land anything.RIP.

I thought I would post a fond memory of one of the best fishing guys on the Cape. A good caster, a good fly tyer, a good rod builder and a great friend to many.
I spent some time on the beaches we used to frequent and thought of Harry this weekend, I took this picture in front of the new entry into the smaller flyshop. tight lines cb |
I didnt now him, but my sympathies and deepest condolences go out to his family :(

Saltfly , Harry had me do a small painting of him in the Nauset Surf, it was for the sign, you can see the "likeness"....
I made the line thicker so you could see it at 9', he also designed some nice flies patterns, I'll have to dig them out of my boxes. tight lines cb |
Rest in peace. Thoughts and prayers to his family and friends.
|
I didn't know him personaly but from one fisherman to another,I will pray to those who will need it the most.
