Lip placement

Can anyone tell me why some swimmer lips are installed tight against the plug and others are not? Also what if any difference does it make if the lip is away from the plug and angled back towards the bottom edge with the through wire?

I like em tight .. Sometimes the lips are bent more than 90 degreees and resist getting pushed in .. Sometimes a little saw dust is in the slot and my sealer will make it a hard snot not allowing the lip to be pushed in .. I don't think it matters . just looks a little hackerama,,, or mass production look .. Some great old plugs have lips like you said .. I strive for excellance and settle for less..
