installing new ram?
My laptop is running slow, but other than that is fine. I don't plan on a new one till next year maybe. It has 2 256k sticks in it, and I just ordered 2 512k's to replace them. Should I replace them both at the same time, or replace 1 boot up the computer once, the shutdown and replace the other?

you should be fine replacing both at the same time provided your laptop can handle 1 gig of ram.
|
make sure you are grounded when you do or you have the possibility of shorting out the SIMMS.

Laptop can handle a gig, and I know about the grounding thanks..:smokin:

though it may be a bad habit. I've changed hundreds of ram chips and never grounded myself and have yet to have a mishap.
just don't go sliding across a rug before you do it. |
Replace them both. Some systems require memory to match, some will down speed if the 256 is slower, and others require the 512 to be in slot 0.

Thanks, all set replaced them both two nights ago. Much better performance now.

Amazing what double the memory capacity can do for your computer. I recently upgraded to 2Gb and.. now I don't know what I did without it!

Replace your ram in pairs for best results
I just went from 512 to 2 gig today on my desktop and only noticed a small differance in speed. Mostly sending E mails. How many of you run a seperate graphics card to take the load off of your motherboard. Does it make much differance if your not playing video games? Capt Walt |
