Thanks for posting,

What is the difference between the General and Angling catagories?

keeperreaper 01-05-2008 10:43 AM

There are NO differences in the quota from this past year to 2008 in terms of size and amount you can keep per vessel per trip..

General category allows you to ONLY take fish greater than 73".
Angling you can keep the school tuna. You are also allowed one 73" + fish per year with this permit.

Also.
charter/head boat permit falls under both categories, but you must do one or the other for each day.
In other words, can't target or keep giants if you have landed 1 27-73 inches.\
Thanks for the heads up Keeperreaper!

I think they may have taken away the "trophy fish" (73"+) from the angling category this year. I don't see it listed.

Might be worth following up on for those in that category.

Good - I wonder why they didn't include that in the posted regs?

Thanks for the clarification.

RR, whats up with your avatar? have you turned a corner? a new chapter if you will.

The tuna stocks will soon be in the dumpster with the way they are being handled right now. Too many people fishing for the small fish and not reporting towards the quota

Better check those regs again. As I read them there is NO fsh greater than 73 inches allowed to an angling vessel.

riverrat2 01-07-2008 04:54 PM

Good what does a rec do with 400#'s of tuna.

keeperreaper 01-07-2008 06:19 PM

Makomike,
It is clearly stated. Here for your enjoyment:
HMS Angling and HMS Charter/Heaboats are also eligible to retain 1 BFT (73 inches or greater) per vessel per year as a “trophy” fish for the boat. These BFT retention limits are effective for all areas, except for the Gulf of Mexico.

Pretty clear to me.

so true!
I get calls weekly or every other week for a catch/trip report from a company hired by marine fisheries, so all my catches are reported.
