Rod Conversion!!!!!!!!!!!!

Can one change spinning rod to casting rod by just putting few small guides? Would this weeken the strength of the rod because the spine of the rod is on the opposite side?

The spine or spline as some say is everything in the performance of the rod, when a blank is manufactured, the heavier molecules drop to one side, thus creating a high side or spine, the optimum load of the rod requires the spine to be correct. For instance, if the spine is to the right, the rod will cast to that side. What you can do is remove the reel seat and turn it around, you can do this by removing the foregrip, then heat the reel seat with a heat gun, which will loosen the epoxy, then pull off the reel seat re-epoxy in new position, if this is an inexpensive rod, don't do anything, buy yourself a new rod.

You can, but...

Dondkim,

Most commercial rods are not spined, so you you won't go too wrong. But the rod may not be what you want.

Yes, you can remove the lower guides and replace them with smaller, casting guides. But you won't have a trigger. You can fashion one if you really want to, but is it worth the time?

MY RECOMMENDATION is that you go to Mudhole.com and buy one of their $9.99 sanded blanks. They are surprisingly good quality, and are cheap enough to practice on.

That way, you can learn how to build from scratch, and that will make converting that spinner much easier.

Good luck.

I am thinking of buying either 10' ben doerr or or lamiglas rod.

Mmmm.... Might want to practice on something cheaper before tackling an expensive blank like that!
