Hey Nebe??

I can see from you have a VW wagon/bus in your avatar, do you drive that or something like it?

I like the VW vans and was wondering how they would work as a fishing vehicle. Lots of storage? Area to build a bed for sleeping? Long enough to store the longest rods?

Nebe 01-14-2008 05:47 PM

Did someone say VW? :heybaby:

yes i own a 1971 VW Westfalia and am in the middle of restoring it back to almost new.. They are awesome fishing machines for one reason- they are so simple to work on. There is no 4wd, but i used to drive my old bus on the sand down here in RI from time to time... There can be lots of storage if you buy the right model.. a late 70's westfalia has more storage than an early one.

Was looking for a vehicle with storage and good gas milage. I believe the eurovan has that but they are more of a mini-van. I was thinking of buying one and stripping out all of the fluff that is not needed.

There is a westfalia version of the eurovan as well:uhuh:

eurovans are garbage. it will cost you thousands to repair over the years.. everything on newer VW's falls apart so quickly.

If your looking for something a bit more modern than a baywindow bus, i suggest a syncro vanagon. If you get one post lots of Pics to drive ZacS crazy :hihi:

a VW bus or van is going to get around 20 to 25 mpg

Nebe 01-14-2008 06:16 PM

this is a jem right here.

20-25mpg with 4x4??

Nebe 01-14-2008 08:44 PM

less with a 4x4...i was talking about 2wd, which is 95% of the vw vans.

lurch 01-14-2008 09:02 PM

cool stuff!!

If I had any ability to fix a vehicle I would be all over one of these.

lurch 01-14-2008 09:09 PM

can you post some pix of your vehicle?

please buy the Boston Syncro on The Samba. I have been having very bad thoughts since I saw it, some that include selling my boat, some include selling my wife...

please buy it so I don't do something very stupid.

Thanks

Zac

My first car was a 69 camper and I miss it dearly. My uncle had a fit that my parents bought a 16 year old a van with a bed in it :) In a weak moment one very cold winter I let her go cause I was tired of having my hands go numb on the way to school and the rust was getting beyond my skills. My brother had a 77 that we would take out on snow days and pull the e-brake to do 360's. Now that seems a bit foolish... My buddy has a 80's syncro camper and it is a sweet ride that may be mine one of these days if my jedi mind tricks have an effect. I too have alway appreciated Nebe's avatar. zacs' is alright too...

That thing looks like it would roll over easily, not yours Nebe the 4wd in the video.

Nebe 01-16-2008 03:57 PM

dave, I agree, but I bet that if you looked inside that van (its not a bus :hihi:) you will see noting inside and most of the weight is low.

this thread should be in the scuppers too :hee:
