My wife just told me she was going to spend $650 on a vacuum cleaner

A Miele to be specific, and for consideration she is a clean freak...it's almost like a hobby.

Obviously that's the price of a new Van Staal.

My response?

Absolutely nothing :hihi:

p.s. I sure hope we have a warm winter :hs:

Been there, done that. Went in the divorce....and she still can't keep a house clean, WITH A CLEANING SERVICE! Bet she can't even find it.

But, I am told the Electroux full canister goes for 1200.00........is what my clean freak inherited from mom.

You can spend all of that much $ on an Oreck.
But they come with an included service plan.

striperman36 01-30-2008 07:09 PM

Oreck's are best???? Tried the rest, Electrolux, Dyson, whatever,
Damn thing runs 4 hours a day,

spence 01-30-2008 07:13 PM

The Miele canistor vac's are supposed to be the cat's meow, you can't even hardly hear the damn thing run.

Dyson interestingly enough are designed using my firm's software. Pretty cool stuff although while rated high, they don't seem to be all that consistent in the reviews.

Anything to make her happy, cause she's gonna pay come spring :wid:

Congrats, that's a nice Vacuum. I just got rid of my 1700 dollar job

we only clean when we are looking for the remote

Nebe 01-30-2008 08:17 PM

well at least she knows her place in society

Chris in Mass 01-30-2008 08:41 PM

How much is the annual service fee?

You can buy a new one every couple of years for the cost of one of them.

I heard they will be made in China next year.

Sorry, thought this was a Van Staal thread. ;)

Who's going to continue to pay come spring? Just give it up, you cannot win. She'll find something else to prosper with, like maid service!!! to use the new vac!! That's 75 a visit and the house still looks the same!!!

We've had several maids, but she scares them away and we can't keep one for more than a few months. Money down the drain anway if you ask me...

Yup, but their having a special right now w/$300 off. If you get an electrux, order the bags and filters online and save yourself $.

The Dad Fisherman 01-31-2008 08:35 AM

after reading this thread I .......WILL NEVER COMPLAIN ABOUT MY WIFE BUYING A $300 VACUUM AGAIN......

fishbones 01-31-2008 10:44 AM

My wife bought an Oreck which seems to do a nice job and is a lot quieter than the old one. At first I told her we didn't need a new vaccum because most of the house is hardwood floors, but it cleans them pretty well, too. I have no idea what it costs, but if it encourages her to clean more often it's well worth it.

Joe 01-31-2008 10:54 AM

It's my job to clean the house, but I subcontract it out.
$650 = 8.6 bi-weekly cleanings @$75 and then free cleanings after that....Quite a bargain actually, I'd buy her two Van Staal vacums so she would not have to lug it upstairs.

God Bless you. I'd be living in the guest house, permanetly.

Swimmer 01-31-2008 11:50 AM

My wifes a clean freak also. Her day usually starts with Frank can you vacuum before I get home. Frank the upstairs needs dusting. Frank the wood stove needs to be cleaned out. Frank the cellar is a little cluttered. The dog poops need to be picked up. And I say :bs:to that.

Wow this one fell off the ladder pretty quick ! I only vacuum when it needs it in my opinion.Nobody elses. So if she says it needs it I do an inspection and tell her nah it's fine.

Jenn 01-31-2008 05:59 PM

whoah! yup...derailed!

Anyway the hubby and I went shopping for a new vacuum and he said we should get the $500 one.....I couldnt justify it. We ended up with the $200 one and it works just fine.

Also on the frequency note .... rule of thumb I think is vacuum once per week per person living in the house.

i am no clean freak and i loved Tattoo Bob's remark of only cleaning when the TV remote is lost.... too funny..

once per week! :cens: not when you burn wood... i cut and split and brought in a 1/2 cord of wood yesterday *enough to last thru super bowl) since its gonna rain cats and doggies later today... "theres always saw dust everywhere"
around here ,so its vacume (or sweep) every chance you get
