I agree, there are several great WWII movies but that one is in a class by itsself.

I only saw Band of Brothers a few times, but it was pretty powerful stuff. Like M*A*S*H without the humor and on steroids.

Hamburger Hill

I too have seen Band of Brothers/Saving PFC Ryan numerous times. They are awesome.

Another worth looking into that has little fan fare is "Saints and Soldiers". Its about the Malmedy massacre (Bastogne) and alot more.

SPR gets better with each viewing

I 2nd the Hamburger Hill, that is a great war movie.

Thin Red Line is terribly underrated.

"Ryan" is almost difficult to watch because the ending is so sad. Great flick though, superb acting.

"Earn This"

I agree Swimmer, but the concept that this man is honoring those wo died so that he might live is so powerful. Seeing a man at the end of his journey examing the events of his life and asking, "Did I earn this?" which was what Captain Miller asked of him as Miller lay dying. Such an incredible movie in so many ways.

About 1990 or so I stood on the cliffs at Omaha Beach looking towards the water. What a vantage point for shooting, amazing that there weren't even more casualties. Cemetery quite sobering too, about 10,000 US buried there, not a blade of grass out of place.

Private Ryan was an amazing movie, really put D-Day into perspective. To visit there must have been quite an experience.
