Big 3 for big girls.

If you were heading into a big bass zone tonight and where carrying only arties, what lures would you carry (throw)? Be specific on who's lure, color, and why you think bass prefer that lure over others.

NIB 02-14-2008 07:23 AM

Stuff for the next book....:laugha:

What time of year?

Flaptail 02-14-2008 10:57 AM

My needlefish.

One stubby white pearl
One standard black/gold
One wad type in olive

all with feathers & crystal flash

Where I fish this is the most dependable line up.

Bronko 02-14-2008 11:28 AM

1. Schoolbus Bomber
2. Blurple Habs Needle
3. Black MAC Danny

Lot of undefined variables. ie: time of year? moon phase? Where?etc.

Okay - I'll fill in some blanks and give two responses.

1 - SS inlet, Oct, 3 days past full moon. 9" pearl Tsunami (bass on bunker); White Bucktail w red UJ 70s (go to in inlets); 2oz black RonZ (eel imitation always seems to work)

2 - M in August new moon. SS Darter in yellow. (Bass on snappers); SS Needle in green; Bob Hahn med surfster.

piemma 02-14-2008 12:10 PM

A white needle

A black swimmer, Danny, bomber, etc

A Storm Shad in the bunker color

MikeToole 02-14-2008 12:41 PM

Eel color 1.5 oz Choopy needlefish.

Olive colored 7" Mambo Minnow.

9" black Slug go

:fight:

Hey... eels weren't an option!

keeperreaper 02-14-2008 12:55 PM

Nor were pogies!!

zimmy 02-14-2008 12:55 PM

Not knowing the conditions... An old red fin, maybe or maybe not weighted; assuming water is flowing and deep enough... a bucktail/plastic combo (probably a 9" sluggoon back); blind beachmaster danny.

If I am in a different state (than CT), I would likely change the danny for a needle.

eelman 02-14-2008 12:56 PM

If I was forced by gunpoint..It wouldent be plugs at all..To much made of them...The hype is way more than the reality But this would be my choice..

1)-9 inch Black Sluggo..rigged

2)-1 to 2/and a half ounce smilin bill Bucktail Jig with a 6-8 inch curltail or porkrind

3)-10 inch finS Fish..white...rigged

reelecstasy 02-14-2008 01:12 PM

1)9" black needle, Brand-(depends on the water)
2)9' black sluggo rigged
3)storm shad-bunker

Ake G 02-14-2008 01:59 PM

Night-time, right?

1) Ake Ultraglide

2) Gibbs 1 3/4 oz. Needlefish

3) 9" Sluggo

All the above in both White and Black

Same here, but substitute the FinS for the old 7" yellow F90 rebel.

This kind of thread gives me the creeps.....

Mike P 02-14-2008 04:20 PM

One 4 oz black bucktail jig, with or without a trailer (I saw a crescent moon in the late evening sky last night which means we're off the moon tides).

One red/black 9" Sluggo superglued to a 4 oz jig head.

One 9" Storm or Tsunami shad--preferably one poured over a single hook head.

bart 02-14-2008 04:22 PM

if its calm and relatively shallow:
9" rigged black slug-go
black mambo
3oz MAC danny, white w/ pink stripe

if its snotty or i'm fishing deep water:
6" storm shad
SS needle
10" fin-s with 1.5oz jig head

BassDawg 02-14-2008 04:45 PM

Less than 2'-4', dark night/moon, at the change, steady wind:
a. 12" blk, rigged sluggo
b. 9" pnut bunker, Storm shad
c. 3 1/4oz redhead/white body, ROCKcaster by Plugcaster

More than 4'-6', dark night/moon, stormy, onshore wind:
a. large needle ~blurple AH, turquoise fire SS, chartreuse HABS
b. 3oz-4oz burg/burg or burg/blk, smilin bill's jigs w/12"-14" pork trailer
c. 9" pnut bunker, Storm shad or rigged blk sluggo

DJ based solely on this question and no facts given above in your question (structure, wind, etc.) I would go with the following:

- 2.5 oz Pt. Jude Butterfish in Gold - This is a tin that I can work the upper level of the watercolum at a very slow speed and can get great casting distance covering a lot of water. I prefer the gold for that extra bling bling factor if the water is cloudy. Extremely versatile lure and my go to tin at almost all times. (Joe thank you for making a great product:claps:)

- Afterhours 2.5 oz Needlefish 8 inches Green over white or gold Belly - This is a very versatile needle because it has a very slow sink rate that will allow me to work all parts of the water column. I prefer the green top, because if i wanted to work it on the extreme bottom of the water column the green resembles many of the baitfish the bass will be targeting (i.e, sand eels) and in the middle water column the green can represent a very large spearing. Additionally, this lure has a great swimming action and is extremely versatile as I can pencil pop with it and puff it along the bottom at 2 or 3 minute intervals if needed. Extermely versatile lure, that casts extremely well. (Don thank you for making a great product:claps:)

- 2.0 oz Smiling Bill Jetty Caster (All white) - This is a bucktail that you can pretty much work the depths of the water column with and can trim the trailer to presesnt different baits. Larger pork rind to resemble bigger bait, thinner porkrind to resemble. white as it can resemble a lot of different bait and if you need to attract on color i find the pork rind to be much better. You can also turn this lure into a great eel immitator by adding a sluggo or a hogy or another trailer. everyone knows the versatility of this lure. The larger hook and the strength of the hook is what sets me apart.

DJ this was a very difficult question. I know that there were items i left off like a darter and danny plug, bottle plug and a Big Water Pikie. If i have success with the dartcaster and it acts as a danny and a darter, that may have to go on the list. But if you asked me to meet you anywhere with a chance at big bass at anytime, without any knowledge of the structure we would be fishing or the surrounding conditions these would be my choices.

FYI if you need someone to fish with you for those large give me a call anytime buddy:call: and I will show you what these 3 lures can do.

Great question, thank god our surfbags hold many plugs!!!

Billy

FYI - I was stuck in Chicago at the airport and could not make the meeting, my apologies buddy
