New Guy's Plug
1 Attachment(s)
Hi Guys, I'm new to plug building, been watching, reading and doing searches here for a couple of months and really enjoying what you guys post and share, I'd planned to get to Plugfest to really get a look and meet the pro's but my plans were sabotaged, anyway, I completed my first plug start to finish, I hand carved it.. completed over the weekend and swam it today and was really pleased, I'm sticking to kits and carving for now and maybe jump into the lathe next winter...PEACE..., Scott

Very nice work, Scott.:claps: When I finally finish one, I'm going to be the only first time plug builder here who actually posts a plug that looks like it was made by a first timer.

thanks, I have the confidence to go forth now...my wife just shrugged and said.. huh, it looks like a fish. I'm trying to work from photos that I find online of various striper snacks, got any suggestions for mackerel stripes?? I think I'm going to try to burn a stencil...

here's what I was looking at, I actually thought about drilling tiny holes behind each gill and adding some feathers for gills, wasn't sure if it was very practical, I wanted to keep a traditional bullet shape for a needlefish but get the eel characteristics too, the tail is flattened a bit and there's a ridge running down the back, I just cut wood for three different sizes so I can scale it down a bit...I hope that subsequent models will go quicker!?!? Have a great weekend!, Scott

sorry, I meant feathers for little fins behind the gill plates..PEACE
|
Nice work, i like the design. :btu:
