daiwa emcast 5000 spinning
 

Ive,d been checking the reel out. don,t seem to bad. any pro,s or con,s ?
will be used strickly on the beach
with plugs and mono line.

I have used one for almost 2 years now. Good results, long cast spool. No problems, but, I don't swim with mine.

"I have been using one of these for the past month and it performs flawlessly. Very good build quality for the price. The 5500 size is a big reel and works well for surf casting. I use mine around rocks and it's fast enough to get the lead off the bottom before it has a chance to get stuck. The only negative about the reel is that it wiggles around a bit on the retrieve because of the material that the body is made of. But I have landed several 10lb. fish and it fights great, with an excellent drag. The only other comparable reel series to the Emcast is Daiwa's own Emblem Pro, at twice the price. And I think the handle on the Emcast is the best one on any saltwater reel."

I probably could have written that myself if I had a chance to use an Emcast for a month ;)

I use the Emblem Pro myself in the Canal for plugging and light jigging. If the Emcast as half as good, it's still a pretty good value for $60. The Emblem Pro is probably the most widely used spinning reel nowadays for Canal plugging. Many of the old timers have switched to it from conventionals. The Emcast handle fits the Emblem Pro and many prefer it.

Thanks for the replys. i wasn,t expecting any or very few. seems like i have to give it a go. sounds like an under rated reel to me.

finatic , i don,t swim with any of my reels . the only time they get wet is with splashes or i fall down. lol . thanks again

i ordered one a while ago and it broke after one season, the drag ceased up. i sent it back to daiwa and the same stuff happend and i threw it away. i would reccomend you get a old penn spinfisher or a penn slammer or swich to conventional and avoid the chinese, japanese stuff, all i have had is problems with asian reels and all my guns are made in america like wise.

i will not take that it casts very nice and can really get a plug into the canal away from the reel but theres more cons than pros, its made out of plastic which really turns me off right away and the whole reel looks and feels rather flimsey.
