Congratulations Specialist!

Congratulations on a fine catch this morning Bill. That is one impressive thing to do at that place.

Specialist got his butt up extra early today and was one of the first ones to the canal and with his new rod and with mono even, his second cast got him his best fish ever - a 36 lb bass caught on the Ledgerunner 13" rubba on a weighted leadhead hook.
Hey, you beat me by one inch and one pound :)

Show us the picture Bill :D

Specialist is really turning into quite the fisherman, especially for only his second year fishing the ditch. Nice Job Bill.

Edited because I have brain damage, he wasn't the 1st there, some troublemaker and his bud were first ;)

TheSpecialist 10-09-2002 10:18 AM

Well I owe my success to many people here on this site. I have accomplished alot this year, including this fish. Thanks Bruce, it sure was fun.

TheSpecialist 10-09-2002 10:19 AM

Here is th pic Bruce took in the dark. No devil eyes this time, had excorscism before I went to get the BM funk out. :D
By the way official weighslip when I got home on state certified scale was 46 1/2", 35lbs. At the same time on my berkley it was 34.1lbs. The berkley is off by .9lbs, So this fish actually weighed 37.5 when it was caught, an hour later it was 35.1, when weighed and witnessed by GS, with the .9 added it was 36 even.
Bob your scale is way off, by 3.8lbs.

Nice fish Bill ! Geeze, it was like a family reunion down there this am. I was nervous when I first showed up and saw all the vehicles. Much to my surprise ( and relief), everyone knew each other. Cool!

It was great seeing the rest of you guys. You too, Slip. :p

Swweeeeetttttt!!! specialist!!!!!

TheSpecialist 10-09-2002 01:09 PM

Thanks everyone. I want to say that I have been blessed with a tremendous season this year. I met alot of new people, and fished with some topnotch anglers. I met alot of my goals this year. I got my first fish jigging in the canal, caught my first fish on an eel, first fish on one of my homemade plugs, and broke my personal best. I learned alot from many people on this site, as well as a few who are not on the net at all. I certainly paid my dues this year, at least my wife sure thinks so :D .

Don to answer your question it is an Allstar 1209, made by Mike Thomas at M&D's in Whareham. It has an Abu 7000 Big Game reel. I am new to the conventional reel so it is spooled with 30lb Big Game. Next year there will be some sort of braid on it.

JJ I got my first fish jigging last sunday, I have finally figured that game out. So naturally I had to take a day off to fish a certain rip at the right time. I only get down there once in a while, hopefully a couple more times before the season is over. If there is a 40+ in there I know that you, Slip , and Mr. Powers all have the ability and expertise in that place to get it. Watching Jim, and his friend Steve, and Slip was eye opening. I saw what I was doing wrong and made some corrections.

Bliz 10-09-2002 01:17 PM

Thanks for the reply Bill!... Great Job!...

As for Jigs, I would love to get some advice on how & where to fish them!...

It seems that whenever I go out using them, I offer them up to the fish gods!!! and to my weekly budget!...

If there is anyone out there who is experienced and isn't too hung up on divulging at least one spot for a learning curve, I would be more than interested in getting out there to learn!...

& I will swear myself to secrecy on the area!!!

PM me if there is anyone out there willing to teach!

Again Bll... GREAT JOB THIS YEAR!!!;)

Got Stripers 10-09-2002 01:41 PM

Congrats again Bill, super fish and I'm so glad to have helped in some small way:) towards you nailing her. If my fish is that far off I guess I have been getting fish close to 40, just never knew it and my eyes and internal scale are even more off...lol. Maybe I should send it back to Berkley, think they would recalibrate it (reads send new) for me:).

Spare Spool 10-09-2002 01:48 PM

Wow! SUper fish! Good job!!!!

Van 10-09-2002 02:04 PM

wow, been jiggin a whole week and you got it figure out huh...

big thumbs up on the fish, but just remember that this is "stupid" fishing season right now...i'm pretty convinced that if i stuck my sneaker onto a 4oz lead head i could yank a fish outta that rip:p

i guess it'll be take-a-number fishing down there for the remainder of the season...

TheSpecialist 10-09-2002 02:27 PM

No I've been jigging without success for about 2 seasons, about 15 trips each season. I finally figured out what I was doing wrong.

jettyjockey18 10-09-2002 02:34 PM

gotcha...whatever you were doing wrong before, it seems your not doing it wrong anymore...

wow, i'm a poet, cuz i rhyme all the time...

i need to fish...:smash:
