Try putting multiple questions in a post, rather than starting 5 or 6 posts a day.
You'll get more answers. |
Yeah what he said. When it comes to a rod there's alot more than just looking for one that does it all. You'll need lure weight average for what your gonna be tossing. Also conditions you'll be fishing in.Someone tossing eels from an open beach will need something different than someone tossing them from a pier or Jetty. You'll need to put alot more details into your question to help make the right decision for yourself.Your best bet would go to a local tackle shop and chat with the guy @ the counter. He may have a guy who builds rods and can make exactly what your looking for.He may suggest a rod he has in stock for your particular appplication.Bring your reel with you and feel the reel on the rod. These are all tips I've got from this site in the past. You may want to locate the search button up top there and do some searching around here. There's alot more info than you will be able to take in in one sitting.

also.... the search forum is an excellent resource :hihi:

mike.... no offense, but you have more threads in 5 days than you do posts. listening is far more valuable than creating many threads. some good advice would be to create one and ask all you questions in one and see to it that way. like I said, we know you are excited (sure seems that way at least) to get back out and learn alot, but just gaining some advice for yourself and doing some of the research in the search and how-to forums like mike p suggested would help you out tremendously. i use it all the time :).

44mike44, it would help to know what size lures you're looking to throw. With a 7000c3 I would suggest 50 or 65# braid and a rod rated for somewhere in the 2-8 oz. area, it's on the heavier end of a surfcasting setup for me, something I would use in the canal or in big surf. I have a similar setup on a Penn Pro Guide Surf rod that's 10' rated for 2-8, it's a 60/40 two-piece (longer half has all the guides on it), which is great if you live in an apartment, like me. It's a well made rod with good guides and can be bought for under a hundred bucks. I would also recommend the Tica Dolphin (UGSA) line of rods, I have a spinner that's rated 1/2-3 that I love for light tackle stuff, but they've just started making conventional rods and they will offer something to fit your bill as well, also two-piece rods but 50/50 split. Let me know what type of area you think you'll be fishing and I can offer you some more precise advice. I'm certainly no expert, but I will help the best I can. Welcome to the site! |
thanks i appreciate it
|
i saw a penn 9ft rated for 1-4oz
im thinking about that... |
which penn rod....

|
never seen those before.... doesn't look like a bad rod, but i wouldn't be able to give you a review on it.

thanks plankton thats deffinately the truth

if you are doing some beach stuff, i say use that 7000 on the 10' penn. that may feel better and balance better. like plankton said, you kinda have to go to a tackle shop and get a feel for it yourself.

The standard plug-ch#^^^^^&g rod for the (non-super serious) fisherman is a 9 foot Ugly Stick, which also works pretty well for bait casting. I've got one, which I like a lot. I recommend it.

Mike44. I'm not sure where you are located in Mass, but if you live east of Worcester and south of Boston you're probably no more than an hour from Wareham. Go see Mike at M&Ds. He has surf rods that cover every price point, from Tica at the low end to the new Lamiglas SSU rods at the high end, and a few in the middle.

great fast service too.
Litterally as I hit the submit button on my last post a guy walks in with my order from M+Ds that I placed Tuesday night! Thanks Mike! |
Penn Pro guide are a good rod. I had one and took a good beating without failing me. Shop around online I know places that sell that cheaper then what you found. I first go Mikes as he has some nice rods though. Guys why are we giving him the third degree for asking questions?? Isnt this forum for getting info and learning something. Its stuff like this that turn newbies off. I know I dont post much but do read a lot and have meet a lot nice peeps. But if you want peps to join and partitipate dont them treat like crap. It all makes the new guys feel like outsiders. I know I am going to get blasted for my post so shoot away.
