Painting plugs as a newbie
 

Well I just got into striper fishing and bought some plastic plugs from the local tackle shop and now I want to redo the paint on at least one of them. I would like to repaint the white one to a mellower softer white. I'm also new to this forum. I have an air brush from painting my duck decoys so air brush paints would be good. Any suggestions on paint sources would be great and which color white would be good.

go to michaels and look for createx

Does Michael's sell Createx? I bought some online, but haven't had a chance to use any yet. It seems that a lot of the guys here use it. Make sure you use a good primer so the paint sticks. If you do a search here, you'll find lots of help for anything plug-building/restoring related.

Welcome to the site. You are sure to enjoy it here. Nothing wrong with northern California. It's a really nice part of the country. And, I think there is still a striper fishery in San Francisco Bay if I'm not mistaken.

Thanks. I was in there this morning and picked up some brushes but wasn't looking for paint. Now I can go there and get it when I need it instead of ordering it online.:kewl:

Welcome aboard KK. Any paint will do as long as it adheres to the base. I don't think I would use Createx on plastic without a proper base coat. If you paint decoys you can use any paint on hand. The final finish is the most important part of the process. A good epoxy is called for. Do a search on this site using the search feature on the band across the page under the banner. Lots of good info there.:err:

what about the krylon fusion spray paint?.. I think it's specifically designed for plastics.

Thanks for the info and the welcome. I ordered some paints from a hobby store and from a fish taxidermy web site. I'll check out Michaels too. My decoy paints are too specific for birds.

do a search for bearair.*** they have sets of paints. I got the dynamo set with a peak 3 airbrush for $140 It came with 48 4oz bottles of createx!! It was at my door in 3 days.
