Old Penn Rescue
In my spring cleanup I came across an older penn 209 that has some corrosion on it. I plan on putting it to light use. What's the preferred method for removing built up stuff? I have heard many things including steel wool, vinegar, cola and bathroom cleaner. Spool is in great shape just some on the real seat and bars. Thanks.

I use a nylon gun cleaning brush to scrub my reels while using some rem-oil or wd-40. works great for me.

Depending on how bad it is, there are a few things to use. Scotchbrite pads, brass or stainless wool (don't use steel wool), or brass or stainless brushes in a Dremel tool. Wear glasses with the Dremel, the bristles can fall out with a lot of use.

Dampening the reel with a little WD40 will keep the dust down, and helps loosen the buildup.
