What is the Fluke outlook for 08?

With the Mag-Stev. act crushing the season and limits over the past couple years...how bad will it be THIS summer? I have been reading dribs and drabs over the winter about this and it does not look good. Given the case that the biomass of the species is near record highs this rebuild in 10 years or else strategy seems impossible to meet even if we stopped fishing altogether. Anyway, any idea what the season will be like this summer? (Given a choice, I for one would rather have a longer season and an higher size then a shorter season and a smaller size)

Someone is tying fluke rigs and thinking about fat flatties!

I hope they extend the season at least until the end of August, my best fluke fishing as far as size goes, always seems to be from the 2nd week of August on.

Damn! your good!

Actually I am worried that this will be the last season for rec fluke fishing for a while. The regs as I read it will not be met (again this season) and they will have to shut it down completely or change the rules and I even doubt they will ever meet their objective. Also, with the cost of fuel doing what it is doing....I may be working on my golf game and surf casting more in the future.

I read someplace NY is considering a 30 day season this year.....un-F'in-real! With biomass of the species of at record highs

INTHE HOLE....me too! I have always found the last couple weeks in August provides some excellent doormats...

I don't really follow fluke fishing that closely, but if the biomass is high, why are the restricting the season? Is it the average size of the fish?

I only fluke fished once last season and got my limit, and probably only 1 or 2 were shorts that had to be released. What gives?

:bs:The more they predict doom & gloom the better the flukin' gets. Whatever science they are using has got to be flawed. :realmad: This subject hits close to home with me but why get cranked up when there's nothing I can do about it.:cens:

Ny is most likely going to be 4 fish at 20.5 inches with a memorial day to labor day season. RI is likely to be 7 fish at 19.5 inches with an all year long season. I have no idea what has been proposed for MA.
