Southern Yellow Pine (SYP)

I've recently been attempting to make my own plugs and am starting to have some success with the lathe and drilling. So far I've ben using blanks made out of southern yellow pine because that's what I have lying around and it seems to work well. However, I'm wondering about the practicality of using this type of material for a lure I'm actually going to fish with. Does it stand up well to the rigors of salt water? Experiences appreciated!

pine

some of old plugs were pine, I'm no expert on pine, I built some bluefish poppers from a 2x4 from lowe's, guy said it was pine...maybe fir or spruce but anyway I passed 5 out and asked for feedback it all came back good, no problems:cheers2: it'll work fine

There are lots of older PROVEN lures made from SYP,,,, To be honest,,, Lots of types of wood have a place in certain plugs,,,, Personally,,, If the plug is durable, swims well and CATCHES FISH (not fisherman) thats all that matters
