Holdovers

I am getting the striper itch...... i have been thinking of fishing these so called 'hold over areas" i went to one last yr in Ct with no luck.. then to top it off i moved to the sticks about 20 miles from my favorite fishing spot that i fished everyday last year/ With that said has anyone had and luck "ghetto fishing" this year?? i have been wanting to go but last year the only thing that i caught was a cold.

I tried "ghetto fishing" a few times last year in RI with no luck. I'm going to try agian soon! Last time I tried during the day, now I'll try at night. I don't puch as much time in as I would when the cows get here so maybe thats why?

In the fisherman they are stating a 29.9 holdover was caught this year and that some guys in Ct have been catching fish in the teens. the wife told me to go down this Friday but i don;t know if night is the best or morning....

WadingWill 03-12-2008 03:55 PM

Not sure, try both and then you'll know.:hee: I know the guys catching the most fish in Ct are doing so from boats. It can be tough to catch them from shore there from what I've been told.

you would be surprised at the amount of boats that are on that river.. i have been thinking of taking my Kayak with my waders and a dry top and attack them but man that sounds cold...... Tight lines in the winter= little line LOL

when yo uare "ghetto fishing" which side of the barrier do you prefer??

WadingWill 03-12-2008 06:01 PM

I fished right at the barrier, across from the warm water outflow. Now that I'm a little more familiar with the area I'll get as close to the warm water as possible. The bridge is supposed to be good too.

Nebe wrote a great article in the Fisherman a couple of weeks ago about holdover fishing. I liked it because it talked about how to find holdover fish no matter where you are.

Rock do you know where i can find that article??

ive had some consistent fishing for holdovers here in boston, via my canoe whenever the wind calms down enough to make it possible.

Hanover Square. Also a lot in South Station.

Ghetto fishing is best done just after dark till it's done.It will just turn off after awhile(my experience)While I've only tried in daylight a few times,I've never caught a daylight fish there.

thinking of going this weekend.... i am hearing that there are many holdovers this yr in RI....anyone have any suggestions for me on this... ??

WadingWill 03-18-2008 06:54 AM

Shoot me a pm if you're going to the RI spot as I may be as well. Might even try one night this week. Always better to fish on the buddy system in that spot.
