Penn 6500 SS Match
 

I will have in my possesion a Penn 6500 SS reel (Thanks Link!) soon and would like to hear suggestions on a good match for this. I have a 7' Med action Ugly Stick but I'd like to upgrade a bit. What would you guys match this with? Thanks.

I have that reel paired with 8' 6" St. Croix Premier PSRS86M2 2 piece 1/2 2 oz lures and feel they balance well. I would think a 10 ' work work well depending on rod specs. That reel, if maintained, can be a workhorse. I use braid on it (PP or fireline) and have had no issues except bail on mine doesn't like temp below 40F.

I have 3 and use them for seaworm fishing From the beach with a Lamiglas 9'6" Triflex

I use the 650 SS m on both an old mitchell 8' fiberglass rod and also on a St. Croix Premier Surf 10'. It matches better with the 10' as it may be a little heavy for the 8'.
