Food prices are 23% Higher
it's a Fact ...and it is now world wide....with riots now happening !
how have you been making less go further? Italy is planning a NO pasta day strike in September.... wow ! China is eating beef like it's going out of style... Watch as their health declines with this generation's eating habits... the cost of cooking oil is going way up. |
The end is near.:hidin:

There seems to be something immoral about taking food and using it to power our cars vs. feeding hungry people.
|
I agree Paul....especially since the use of Ethanol has not been much help in keeping the price of gas down!!! It has done nothing but deprive people of food and drive the cost of food through the roof!!! Idiots!!!:hs:
|
considering 80% of Americans are overweight, Id say the solution is to eat 23% less food. :rotfl:

China is eating beef like it's going out of style... Watch as their health declines with this generation's eating habits... QUOTE] Raven, the concept of asian cooking as "healthy" is a huge misconception. My wife is Chinese and when we first met we went to a lot of traiditonal Chinese restaurants in San Francisco. She ordered dishes called "fatty pork" and other things that were so bad for you. I think asian cooking got good press years ago for the vegatable/stir fry concept that is one part of the asian diet. Asian diets are high in carbs (rice) and fat/cholestorol - eggs, pork, oil etc. My mother in law eats a 100% asian diet and she is a diabetic, and gets kidney dialysis 3 times a week. |
Its ironic that Italy is planning a no pasta day. Speaking to people that travel for a living, pasta is one of the ways that families in Europe make ends meet.
|
we could always eat rats. There are plenty of those.
|
since food costs are so high we need to convince our families that we need to FISH this season as much as possible to put food on the table!!!

Food in the US has always been a bargain. Anything you want can be had at supermarkets.
Now with the increased cost of chemical fertilizers, fuel to produce and ship, prices have been rising rapidly over the last few years. Taking acreage from food to grow corn for ethanol is also hurting as well as increasing phosphate run off, polluting the rivers all the way down to the Gulf. A 20x20 garden can feed a family of five from May to October if you sucession crop one vegetable after another when mature. I used to get 3 different crops per row, but it takes alot of planning and work to get it to work. Worth it though. |

how have you been making less go further? QUOTE] Coupons & sales.... I used to only buy what I needed when I needed it but now I am doing a lot more of buying 2-3 of something I know I use all the time when its on sale instead of just one when I need it. Also you can bet more of the yard get tilled for a bigger garden this year! Not drastically larger but a little more. I have a rather small garden now but its amazing what you can reap from a small space with just a little planning and care. |
