Have you recently changed any passwords for you ISP?
|
Its weird that you can receive mail but can't send. Most mail servers don't require you to authenicate on a send just on a receive to verify your account credentials. They know your IP address as they give it to you when you connect so they open it up to that block of IP's.
I'd wait till tomorrow or so. Chances are if you didn't make any changes to, install any software firewalls or other then its an ISP issue, especially if you have full internet access and that you can receive e-mail. Your ISP may be doing maintenance or feeding the hamsters who turn the wheels that give power to the mail server! :biglaugh: I've seen a problem on one workstation where after VPN'ing into their work they needed to reboot the PC to gain access to their private optonline e-mail again. They, however, couldn't send or receive after disconnecting from their work VPN. Again..sometimes a reboot of the PC and the modem fixes many internet gremlins. |
I had that problem b4. Search the error in Google. Or Google "outlook won't send", lots of info.

there are two services used for email sending and receiving.
when you receive mail you use a service called pop3 when you send mail you use a service called smtp. You might use imap but I doubt it. some isp's use different servers for the services or at least different servernames. If you can receive your mail that means your credentials (username and password) are working for the pop server if you cannot send mail something happened with the smtp side. Possible scenarios Your isp changed the default sending port (25) and didnt tell you. They now require authentication in order to send.. (this is a little check box in outlook) They only allow ssl connections which would mean a port change Their smtp server name has changed... usually its mail.mailprovider.com or smtp.mailprovider.com. Best thing to do is go to the isp's website and look for instructions on how to setup outlook for email. Usually if you log into their webmail and find the help section they have it all layed out... Unless they don't want you to use outlook then you have to do digging. Hope that helps. |
or
you can open up a Google mail account
it's a very good email client then you simply add your present email address to your account and import the mail it has unprecedented amounts of email storage they have easy tutorials about setting it up |

its basically using gmails smtp for comcast and acts like a relay which spam filters don't like all that said, just switch to gmail :) its a great free choice |
Didnt change ANYTHING before the problem.....thats what gets me! Tried restore, tried the settings, tried the online search of the error and came up with so many scenarios I dont know where to start!
AHHH! |
if you want pm me your email address.
also is it outlook or outlook express? |
problem fixed. Thanks all for the advice.
Hubby was messing around with it and I guess it had something to do with the default |
What Raven said.
Mr.Hunters,Gmail also works in conjunction with Mozilla Thunderbird which is far superior to lame Outlook Express.By using Tbird it will eliminate the issue you're having. |

what raven wants to do is use gmail to in effect "host" the other email address. so when you send your mail as joe@comcast.net you can send it using your gmail interface. This on the recieving side shows up as From: "joe@GMAIL.com sent on behalf of joe@COMCAST.net" ive only seen it show up this way in OE but could show up in others. |
the reason why
the reason why i suggested that is because
recently my ISP internet service provider switched over to using Google Mail and they changed the ports for the email servers and it royally screwed up outlook express which Still isn't working right so i said frig it and opened up two more email accounts both with GMAIL and they work pissa in fact i just downloaded and installed gmail notifier and when someone @ S-B replies to a post a small pop up window ...pops up saying for example mr hunters just replied to outgoing email @ s-b and i can be working on the PC and keep track i read 80% of my S-B reading in my email anyways as is... and only "pop in" to post....or instant message with instant delivery notification enabled....in your user area.... which is quite faster than the S-b refresh rate... |
