And here's a cool video of one I released. It changed colors from dark to almost a chart/green ..yellow as it swam away, starting with its head....I swear if it was night it would have glown in the dark...pretty cool

gorgeous fish... i have yet to hook into a smally that big. then again i think i've only hooked into a few dozen in my life. but i've never targeted ponds/lakes known for them. usually saved them as a NH delight. not enough clean water in these parts. |
Nice smallies, I love smallmouth - if they grew as big as stripers you would need 30 class gear to land them, terrific fights!!

nothing beats a small mouth on a stiff rod
I remember my first smallie. Using ultra light tackle targeting small trout in a little stream upstate NY. This first smallie hit my Mepps and I thought I was snagged on the ledge. Then the ledge pulled drag. He was about a 13 inch fish and one of the coolest fights I have had.
I live on Cape Cod and I have only caught one smallmouth bass in my life. God, I'm a loser.
Quite a few good Smallie lakes on the Cape actually.
