How late do you stay out???

How long after the sun goes down do you stay in the surf?

My most productive time is JUST AFTER the sun goes down - for about an hour. After that, it's hit or miss.

Most folks in my area (Niantic, CT) leave just before the sun is down - I guess so they can see their way out.

Also... How early do you go out?

I hear folks say that they go back out at 2:00am. I usually try to be in the surf at 6:00am but I don't have much luck then. Night is MUCH better for me!

Thanks and good luck,
Rob

That question should read: How long before the sun sets do you START fishing?

I usually get there as the sun is setting (However, this is wholly dependent on the tide), and let the fish dictate how long I stay. That window of false night (When the sun has set, but it's still late out) can be productive, but not nearly as much as the hours of darkness that follow it.

Being mostly an AM guy.......

When I start has a lot to do with both the tide (especially on the Ma South Shore with the large tide height swings, Rhody it's not as critical), and the time of year.

This time of year, we have dawn at about 6-6:30, with sunrise about 7......until Sunday, anyway, when it'll move back an hour. In the middle of June, your talking a whole different ball game, with dawn as early as 3:30-4AM.....

I like to have about 1 - 1 1/2 hours of relative darkness, thru the sun up, and then about an hour or two after that. Unless it is cloudy, then I can go longer.

Always have my best luck just about sunrise, or shortly before or after......

But most guys will say DARKNESS............

For night tides, I like to have my plug in the water as the sun is setting so I'll arrive a little before the sun is gone. Its a great time to be on the water. I'll stay till midnight always and later if i'm into fish. If I'm on morning tides then I make sure i'm on the water by3:30-4. So few people ever are in my company.

Depends on the tide & time of year but late and later is good :D
