Any chance of a plug building forum?

Pretty please?

bassmaster 10-01-2001 05:56 PM

;) how about a cape forum to

JohnR 10-01-2001 07:09 PM

Are you sure you want two forums where BM will reign as King?

King PluginKoma?

I can make any forums (within reason :p ) that you all want. Do you want regional stuff?

Plug building forum sounds good. Personally, I'd like to give it a shot but that's down the road a bit. I've gotta learn the flyrod before that happens. Who here besides Patrick makes plugs? I know GS pours his own jerkbaits and several people make their own teasers including FW & Bobbike. Salthear & Smokey pour a ton of jigs...

What other Forums would you want?

jenty 10-01-2001 08:29 PM

John;

I would go for a Plug Building Forum. I just started building them recently and have picked up on it rather quick. I would contribute as much as I can to the forum, and hopefully would learn some things as well.

Nice needle BM, good job!
where's mine?

JohnR 10-01-2001 09:32 PM

Slip - at the bottom of the reply page, next to "attach file" hit browse, find the file you want, hit open and that will upload it to the server..

BM - yeh - you can only post one pic per because it might slow you down from running all the servers on the Internet out of disk space ;) :D :p http://128.241.205.103/vbulletin/ima...lies/errrr.gif http://128.241.205.103/vbulletin/ima...ies/laugh2.gif

JohnR 10-01-2001 09:39 PM

Man, that sheen on those plugs is awesome... You'd need to charge 20 bucks a piece in the shops... But yer costs are less because you steal 'em first - then paint & poxy, right?

OK - I think we'll hace a plug building forum http://128.241.205.103/vbulletin/ima...iggthumpup.gif

Patrick82 10-01-2001 09:50 PM

BM,

I've hand carved a few plugs from dowels but nothing like you guys make. The lathe thing is just too messy for my parents house. And when I move out, it will be into an apartment and that won't fly with the landlord. I'll stick to rod building. I have an interest in plug building but I don't have the lathe, the tools, the wood, the know how, or the hardware.

Got Rod? ;)

Slipknot 10-01-2001 10:27 PM

Aaa John, I thought that's what I did. do you mean once I uploaded it , I didn't need to copy and paste it ? I'm confused, I make cabinets(square boxes) and plugs, I don't make computers work like you :)

bassmaster 10-01-2001 10:31 PM

Then what? I thought I did this before....

I would love to learn how to make plugs. I have half started a few times, but never have really finished anything up. Maybe I'm a little scared that my first plug won't be perfect. I'm sure once I get started I can learn all the tricks about where to put the weight and such. I guess this winter is the time to get the garage DUSTY.

I would love to see how Habs spins wood since he is only about 3 or 4 miles form me...

I just came back from central Florida. I went on a gator tour where they also carried fishing tackle. There was a tourist from London there buying up dozens of freshwater Rapalas (wooden diving lures) that retailed for about $6. He said that the same lures would cost $25 in England!!

Imagine what some beefy saltwater plugs could fetch. Although my guess is that much of that price in London included some hefty taxes.

Hey Slip - I took a picture for ya... ;) http://128.241.205.103/images/post1.gif http://128.241.205.103/images/post2.gif Slect the file and hit open... Are you uploading over a phone modem? or broadband?

Wait a minute there lathe-witch ;) all plug donations for special treatment have to come over this way first - nowhaddimean? :D I also need to warn you, I have very few woodworking tools to offer - matter o fact, right now, I'd have to turn 'em on a dremel. So remember BM, Slip has far better production facilities that I do http://128.241.205.103/vbulletin/images/smilies/nut.gif

Got Stripers 10-02-2001 07:49 AM

LMAO

Slipknot 10-02-2001 07:56 AM

Hehehehe

John, cable T1

I did that and it said too big 600x600.
so I guess I need to squash it.

Funny it shows up on my screen, but it doesn't say - slipknot has attached image

I'll try later, I'm a computer googan/greenhorn

JohnR 10-02-2001 08:09 AM

Slip - it works on your machine because for some reason it shows up as a path on the site. Because that path points to your machine, it'll work for you. 2 things to keep in mind: 1 - Use the "IMG" tag under "vB Code" if you are linking to a picture already on the web http://128.241.205.103/images/post3.gif - 2 - use the "Attach file" process to upload individual files to the post. These files can have a maximum size of 599x599

Fishpart 10-02-2001 08:43 AM

Slip,

Me likes....

Do you throughwire or use screw eyes?

What woods do you find the best?

The finishing questions will start later

Tattoo 10-02-2001 08:53 AM

OK fellas, you guys just wait till I get home and post the new batch of needles! You aint seen nothin yet!

I would be happy to be the "leader / mentor" if I was nominated by the group.

I don't know that much, but I try....

Slip, that needle was the one you LOST right ? :D

BM, I know, I know, Darters! You need blank stubbies? Pay for the dowels and I'll make 'em. A dowel costs 2 bucks and I can get about 6 out of it. Labor is free. :)...as long as you save me a seat next Slip in the back of the skunk moblie....

Fishpart, that particular one was mahogany and thru wired. The best wood may be maple or birch in my opinion. But I'm just getting started with this hobby. That needle has tubebraid on it and that stuff is big $
The finish is epoxy

jenty 10-02-2001 10:37 AM

Slip;

I thought that was turbraid. How do you like it? Me and JonS put some on a plug and it looked like it would work great. Does it conform to the shapes ok? How Much weight do you put in the back?

I like to use either cedar stock or pine dowels, thier real easy to work with and they sand down real nice. I'm still trying to find that Alaskan Yellow Pine though.
