Whale of a day!

The Humpies were in close this afternoon right off the Race. On the strength of yesterdays sightings my wife joined me and we spent the afternoon just sitting in the sun at 2nd rip in the shde of the truck watching the humpbacks bubble feeding and the occasional right whale swim by just offshore. The birds were swimming inside the gapping jaws of the Humpies as they rose up. They were within casting distance again ( well maybe not Numbskulls range but your average canal guy could have zeroed in on them)

The sand eels were thick just off the outer bar.

Enjoy!

The humpbacks are entertaining - see any jump? They must have just shown up - the pics I took in the Weekend's Plans thread were taken Thursday afternoon, and it was all finbacks doing the same bubble feeding coming up straight up off of the wall.

That's a good sign - they follow the big ocean-run sand eels.

Flap: Do you think these Humpies could be trained to dine on seals

Our best bet would be to either begin breeding great whites, or import some.
I thought briefly, VERY briefly about enticing killer whales to try their hand at seal meat, but they also eat a lot of fish too, and that would only compound our problem.

Maybe there could be a "humane" method of drivingh theseals elsewhere, something like dropping sonar "pinging" devices that braodcast load enough to be annoying, but not enough to damage any whales or porpoises.
Just thinking out loud...
