Cost of upgrade New AMD x2 4200 processor - FREE! :) Removing the old processor by removing the heatsink and finding out the processor was fused to it - FREE! :P Not realizing that you broke off pins in the slot and bending the pins on the processor trying to put it in - FREE! :( Not being able to put in your old processor/heatsink - board is toast - FREE! :( :( Purchasing a new monitor - because the old one is fuzzy (all before the upgrade - 240 Purchasing a new board and AMD x2 5000 chip - $180 Putting it together to realize you have the wrong RAM - $69 Obviously missing something - short out board and power supply - $208 to replace 69 +40 +99 cost to con newegg and return their old board as DOA - 13.50 So for $600.. I get a marginal Processor upgrade... and a pretty monitor... Im annoyed now.. :1poke: |
Brian,
from your neighboring town of Lakeville, my condolences. Let's hope your perseverence has created some GOOD karma out of this. |
I've been down that road.If your putting the Processor in yourself and it has a sticky pad on the heatsink.Take a razor and scrape it clean then use a thermal grease on it.Those sticky pads are the killer of most slots.Sorry to hear about your frustration. Not sure why they put the sticky pads on still.
