Locking Gas Caps?

the problem is keeping the key in the car..

the way to do it right (as i have learned for me)

is to keep the key

off your main keys and put it on it's own loop

and leave it on the shifter ...

You talking about the car or the boat???

I'm more worried about the boat than my truck.
Any marina or mooring field has hundreds and hundreds of gallons easy to steal with no one around.

I wonder if they make locking caps for boats./

If a thief really wants to steal your gas, there are ways around any lock !
I can see this locking cap installed with self taping screws ans the thief just unscrewing it, and cutting the hose !!!

You make a good point. Easy to install, easy to remove.

Furthermore,

Many boat tank installations are not a straight shot to the gas tank. Some take enough bends and run horizontal for a while that siphoning really would be a bit difficult. Much easier to do it to a vehicle than a boat, especially when reports of drilling holes in tank bottoms goes.

my tank is located in my center console behind a canvas skirt,

real secure. maybe ill paint a circle with a line through it on the canvas. THAT will keep them away.

My boat stays here in my yard and as the sign on the gate says:

If you are found here at night,

If I was a gas thief I would pop the hatch cover off the sending unit in the middle of the deck.. cut the fuel line and suck it out right from the sending unit itself..
or cut the entire harness open that goes thru the transom and expose the fuel line. or pop the hatches and find the water separator and splice in there. might as well have it filtered too..
There's always a way if they want it bad enough.

Easiest way is to just cut the rubber vent hose and suck it out from there. Siphoning from a floating boat is pretty close to impossible, but if the boat is on a trailer its doable. IMHO locking gas caps on a boat are a waste of time, waaay too easy to defeat.

Agreed.....All locks do is keep honest people honest.

But if they have many boats to choose from to steal gas, why bother with the one with a locking cap, just move to Mako's boat !!!!!!! LOL
