Sound/Video Card
I want to be able to hook up a flat screen tv that is also a monitor to my computer, but my desktop is 5 years old and it only has vga hookups for monitors. Also, my sound card is analog and I can't hear digital streaming video from the MLBTV service I signed up for.
Soo.... The computer is pretty good for what I use it for, it's just not a multimedia pc - is it worth upgrading my video and sound cards? |
A lot of motherboards have sound/video built in now...search for a "780G microatx" board. Roughly $80-90. New AMD CPU is $80. Memory is $80.
If you buy standalone sound and video cards, you're probably looking at $150-200.. |
Check out www.newegg.com for anything PC related, best prices around and usually you get the item the next day.

Thank you.

Do a little search on slots for motherboards,to find out if you have an (AGP) slot.If you do thats what you want for a graphics card.If you don't have that slot, you will should have an available (PCI) slot ,NOT PCI EXPRESS just pci. You can find either of those types of cards on newegg pretty cheap. Also look for some writing or a sticker on your ram for ex. pc100 or pc133 or pc whatever type you have and upgrade that to at least 512mb. Compatibilty is the most important thing when buying pc parts.Good luck,it shouldnt cost much for these upgrades.
