HA! Now HERE is a another dumb one...

What side of a spinning reel does the handle go on if you are right handed?

I am right handed but I like to hold the rod in my right hand and reel w/ my left.

When I use my fresh water bait caster, I fish the other way around.

My buddy is just the opposite of me and he is right handed as well.

I know it's personal pref but... how is yours set up?

Thanks,
Rob

im right handed, and the handle is on the left with spin. dont have bait caster but would prefer the same with that. just my preference.

Same as above, right handed, crank on the left........but ask Redcrbbr......he really screwed me up one night when he was wading and his other pole was bouncin'......know what it's like to pick up a bouncing pole and go to set the hook, and all you are reeling is air?.... ;)

I always like to see the RH'ed guys who fish with the spinning reel up (and rod guides up) and crank it (backwards) with their right hand. When you see this guy on the tip of the breachway you know your in for a rough night even before you start fishing.
:smash:

yep, I'm right handed.

Spinning: rod in right hand, crank with left hand
castin: rod in left hand, crank with right hand

I don't know if its right or wrong, but that's the way they generally come out of the box and its the way I've always done it. Its hard to switch too. You feel like an oaf.

Hey Guys....

Actually it doesn't matter.

If the handle is on the wrong side for you just flip
the rig upside-down. ;)

It works for my father-in-law. :laughs:

Well i've had this discussion about 3 or 4 times this year with some of my friends...... I'm right handed and I reel with my right and hole the rod with my left. I always thought that I was fishing rightie but I guess not????????

Saltheart 10-25-2002 06:28 PM

I always crank with my right hand and hold the rod with my left. That means I'm a right handed conventional fisherman but a left handed spinner fisherman. I can use the conventionals right out of the box but have to switch the handles to the other side when I buy a spinner.

i'd go with whatever is most comfortable. if it feels right, then it is right.
